Ensures adherence to the Synovus credit risk philosophy, risk appetite and lending strategies. Serves as an additional point of client contact, maintaining a high level of responsiveness. Navigates a wide variety of financial structures, credit scenarios and financial analysis situations. Communicates risk and return with Community Banking partners.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
• Oversees and manages a base of customer relationships to ensure compliance with sponsorship approvals and documentation. This may include collecting necessary financial data, financial modeling for verification and understanding of past and future performance, analysis, presentation, recommendation, and completion of waivers and amendments.
• Conducts analysis and structuring of credit requests for clients and prospects. Develops client assessments including in-depth analyses of financial data and other information provided by the client. Conducts projection modeling, stress testing and other analyses using research and evaluations from a wide variety of sources.
• Assesses deal strengths and weaknesses and risk factors. Evaluates and establishes risk ratings for transactions and correlates exposure levels as a part of the client strategy discussion. Completes and coordinates memos (e.g., Deal Concept Memo/ LAF) using established processes and materials.
• Monitors existing customer relationship on an ongoing basis for issues or concerns and conducts monthly, quarterly, and annual credit reviews as required for Sponsorship, ACH and Third Party senders. Prepares thorough servicing reviews on a periodic basis and participates in the risk rating verification process. Works with Bankers and Credit partners regarding risk rating overrides. Conducts timely compliance and credit review (e.g., quarterly, annually) for Bankers. Completes spreads and also forwards statements for spreading and ensures upload to internal databases/systems.
• Reviews status of current accounts to include, but not limited to, defaults or potential defaults on covenant requirements. Notifies Risk Manager and or Supervisor on these matters and interacts with the customer where necessary.
• Performs ongoing reviews of sponsored client performance, including industry research and peer comparisons, and initiates discussions with Risk management and customer's financial team to ensure customers' positive operating performance and ability to meet their obligations. Notifies Risk Management immediately of any deterioration in operating performance.
• Supports Partner Payments and Retail/Community Risk Management in working with large sponsorship customers to handle existing and proposed sponsorship requests, providing a high level of customer service support, with an emphasis on obtaining and retaining high income customers.
• Works with Retail/Community Risk Management to develop an assessment of client, competitor and industry risks and trends. Requires complete in-depth analysis of financial data and other information provided by the client, and supplemental analysis with research and evaluations from a wide variety of sources .
• Works with Sr. Dir Iss & Acq Third party Sponsorship, Retail Risk Management, and bank attorney on the sponsorship documentation and closing process for new large, complex sponsorship agreements. Analyses prospects and prepares in depth credit risk approval memoranda for presentation and approval by the Special Committee. Is instrumental in setting up appropriate credit risk monitoring procedures.
• Conducts review and maintenance of monitoring reports and pertinent approval documentation to ensure that information is in place to facilitate internal audit, compliance and regulatory review.
• Assists in cross selling efforts with other areas of Synovus and performs special projects related to individual portfolio dynamics or projects for the department manager.
• Each team member is expected to be aware of risk within their functional area. This includes observing all policies, procedures, laws, regulations and risk limits specific to their role. Additionally, they should raise and report known or suspected violations to the appropriate Company authority in a timely fashion.
