Job Overview The Tax Foundation seeks a Junior Web Developer to join our Marketing and Communications team and support the design and implementation of our website, taxfoundation.org , and a range of interactive data tools. The successful candidate will have a collaborative mindset, working directly with the marketing team and project stakeholders to improve our existing web infrastructure... design and implement creative new web products, and routinely identify opportunities for improving user experience. We are looking for someone with expertise in HTML, CSS/SCSS, WordPress, JavaScript, and React.js, experience with AWS cloud architecture for web hosting, the ability to work with complex datasets to deliver compelling visualizations, and an eagerness to become our in-house web design authority. The right candidate must also be aligned with the Tax Foundation mission of pushing the tax reform debate toward smarter policies. The Junior Web Developer will report to our Vice President of Marketing and Communications and will be located in Washington, D.C., although a remote working arrangement may be considered for the right candidate. Responsibilities Maintain, update, and improve WordPress-based website including monitoring and optimizing performance, fixing bugs and addressing user feedback, designing and implementing user-experience improvements, and assisting in the design of taxonomies and implementation of content management best practices. Maintain and build compelling interactive web tools using React.js or similar framework, including 2-3 unique tools per year and regular data updates for existing tools. Collaborate with the marketing team to design high-fidelity wireframes, mockups, and prototypes for website expansions and new interactive tools and help standardize design elements across web products. Work with policy teams to streamline data gathering processes and ensure best practices for version-controlling data and displaying it for consumption by expert and general audiences. Assist in outlining development road maps, establishing web development best practices, and ensuring products are delivered on time and within scope. Provide clear and robust technical documentation on GitHub for all work performed. Requirements and Desired Skill Sets Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or closely related field. Expertise in WordPress, React.js, JavaScript, and AWS. Experience with Timber for WordPress, and prototyping tools like Figma a plus. Experience using AWS cloud architecture for web hosting, including ability to work with Amazon RDS, EC2, CloudFront, and S3 buckets. Strong understanding of user interface design principles and content management best practices, with proven track record of delivering creative website solutions and data visualizations. Ability to communicate in a clear and convincing way with non-technical team members, project stakeholders, and users. • Manages members of the global team and advises them on research agendas, project development, and timelines
• Leads critical research and engagement projects on emerging international tax policy issues
• Takes initiative to develop new research projects with the goal of advancing principled, pro-growth tax policies outside the U.S.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. The days and hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. For remote employees in time zones other than U.S. Eastern Time, arrangements can be made to adjust the daily work schedule to maintain overlap with other team members. Some travel and extended hours may be required.

We need someone who loves to dive into the details to understand, sort through, and improve overall business operations matters. The person in this role must be a self-starter who has an interest in establishing a career path in the free market nonprofit space, believes strongly in the Tax Foundation mission, and has the drive, attention to detail, and skillset to help keep the organization and its executive leadership running efficiently.
This is a full-time position based in Washington, D.C. We are currently operating on a weekly hybrid schedule of three days in the office and two days remote.
Responsibilities
• Serve as primary liaison to Tax Foundation vendors, including all operations-related resources such as IT, HR, finance & accounting, property management, and legal services
• Actively engage with and manage all vendors and recommend improvement/changes as necessary
• Oversee office administration, including office space, building maintenance coordination, and supplies and inventory
• Act as primary contact for day-to-day HR matters and serve as a conduit between Tax Foundation staff and external HR provider; responsibilities include coordination of recruitment, hiring, onboarding/offboarding, benefits administration, and payroll
• Support accounting and finance tasks in coordination with external accounting provider; responsibilities include credit card reconciliation, accounts receivable support, and bill.com oversight
• Manage all vendor and subscription accounts, including standardizing payment methods and contact profiles
• Coordinate organization-wide activities, including internal meetings and special events
• Support the President & CEO and Executive Team in scheduling and travel logistics
• Develop a strong, operational partnership with the President and Executive Team
• Handle other office and operations functions as assigned or needed
Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or equivalent experience
• 3+ years of experience in a prior office management/coordination role
• 1+ year experience handling general HR responsibilities
• Familiarity with finance and accounting processes and principles is preferred
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to independently prioritize projects and deadlines
• Excellent communication skills and ability to build strong relationships and interact with people at all levels of the business
