On TED.com, we're building a clearinghouse of free knowledge from the world's most inspired thinkers — and a community of curious souls to engage with... ideas and each other, both online and at TED and TEDx events around the world, all year long.
In fact, everything we do — from our Conferences to our TED Talks to the projects sparked by The Audacious Project, from the global TEDx and TED Translators communities to the TED-Ed lesson series — is driven by this goal: How can we best spread great ideas?
TED is owned by a nonprofit, nonpartisan foundation. Our agenda is to make great ideas accessible and spark conversation.
Job Description
The Strategic Partnership Manager supports ground-breaking learning & development partnerships that expand the reach of TED@Work’s content, drive significant revenue, and help spread powerful TED ideas to learners and organizations around the world.
Reporting to the TED@Work team lead, the Strategic Partnerships Manager actively cultivates and manages a wide range of new and existing licensing, reseller and referral partnerships that drive revenue and brand awareness for TED’s L&D business.
Partners include high-visibility reseller and referral partnerships that need to be optimized to hit key performance goals and achieve steady growth, as well as licensing partners where account renewal and growth is determined by smart content strategy and performance.
Thus, you will work with our partners as a “TED content strategist” and “product manager”, smartly project managing and delivering on key deliverables (eg. content delivery, curation, branding), making smart content recommendations to appeal to a partner’s target audience, executing partner campaign creation and customer marketing where needed, and building strong interpersonal relationships. You will be taking the partner through the content onboarding, optimization, and renewal phases of the partnership.
This is an exciting opportunity to drive growth for a startup business (TED@Work) within the world’s leading media and conference organization, all with the aim of bringing great ideas to every corner of the globe.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Manage licensing, referral, and reseller partner external relationships -- ensuring partner performance and growth, driving towards renewal and expanded revenue opportunities.
• Serve as the primary point person with all licensing, referral, and reseller partners for TED’s L&D business. Handle content delivery and onboarding, communications, and day-to-day operations. Meet regularly to define and redefine – and determine new tactics to drive towards – mutually agreed-upon success criteria.
• Create feedback loops with sales team and team leadership, identifying early and often possible revenue enhancements/upgrades, roadblocks or barriers to hitting partner performance goals.
• Proactively work with partners to improve the performance of each collaboration in a mutually beneficial manner, to scale the audience and optimize monetization.
• Identify, propose and execute on promotion opportunities based upon partner strategy and platform capabilities. This might include working with TED’s designer to get creative assets, submitting requests to a team curator and beyond.
• Conduct due diligence on new partners, making recommendations about effective operations at the negotiation stage.
• Assist the finance team with invoicing, reporting, and budgeting requests.
• Review partner data and audience analytics; provide reports and presentations to management.
• Supervise and mentor other team members in their ongoing duties and professional growth.
• Advise and assist the TED@Work team lead in connection with the team’s overall goals and objectives.
• Support other areas across the TED@Work team as needed, including serving as partner liaison for conferences, live productions, and special events.
Salary range: $80-$100K plus performance based bonus
Qualifications
• 5+ years of full-time experience at a leading and/or highly innovative media or entertainment brand.
• 2+ years of full-time experience in a partner success or customer service role.
• A deep, intellectual curiosity about the rapidly evolving media space, and the corporate learning and development space.
• Knowledge of the audio, podcast, or television ecosystem is a plus: production partners, platforms, third party monetization services, etc.
• Knowledge of the corporate learning, leadership and DEI landscape is also a major plus.
• A strategic mentality—a proactive vision for the year-over-year growth and evolution of each relationship and the ability to nurture that (both with the external partner and internally at TED).
• A customer service mindset, with a management style that recognizes that when we value our partners, they will value us.
• Experience managing high-stakes business relationships.
• Excellent writing, communication, and presentation skills.
• Impeccable project management skills.
• A comfort level with negotiation.
• Thoroughness and ability to multitask in a fluid environment.
• Fluency in a non-English language or significant experience of living outside the U.S. is a PLUS.
