JOB DESCRIPTION

FOX 13 and FOX 13+, the FOX Television Stations Owned & Operated duopoly in Seattle, WA is seeking an experienced newscast director to direct various live programs. The successful candidate will be in the hot seat during newscasts, sports shows, and other live programming as warranted – using Ross Automation, iNews, Chyron and other broadcast software and hardware. The director will direct specific shows regularly, while assisting or backing up other shows on the same shift – whether as an AD, audio operator or other role. Other daily duties will include prepping the studio for live broadcasts, maintaining audio equipment like mics and IFB’s, and envisioning creative ways to use our studios and control rooms.

Directors at FOX 13 are leaders and collaborators on our news team. The successful candidate will communicate well under pressure. The control room setting can be hectic at times, but the right director is always calmly in control. Must have experience directing live daily newscasts on an automation system and be comfortable during unscripted moments like breaking news or other live events. This is a full-time, regular shift, but the news business is a 24/7 world and schedules can occasionally change due to vacation relief, breaking news, or other staffing requirements.

What you’ll do:
• To report on all types of breaking news and planned news coverage in the North of England, and occasionally beyond, to provide compelling content for television, mobile, online and radio.
• To come up with imaginative story ideas and treatments which help to give Sky News the edge over competitors, and which illuminate the key issues in this busy and distinct area of the UK.
• Great value is placed on the originality of your journalism and its execution. It’s what makes us distinct from our competitors.
• You should have a demonstrable track record of finding exclusive and original stories
• To work quickly against deadlines to deliver live broadcasts, reporter “packages”, written online content and bespoke video content for digital. Priorities are decided in liaison with the news desk.

What you’ll bring:
• First class editorial judgement and the journalistic skill and experience to handle most a wide range of national stories
• Excellent writing skills.
• The ability to broadcast live in a fluent and coherent way, both by way of analysis and by delivering the facts on breaking news events.
• Ability to tell stories with clarity and imagination, whatever the medium
• Demonstrable capacity for delivering original and exclusive news stories. Good live broadcasting skills and TV packaging ability, or an evident aptitude to learn them quickly
• Good knowledge of law and compliance issues affecting news media.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to positively interact with any person in any situation.
• A Full Driving License and Passport is essential for this role

Responsibilities:
• Set-up and ongoing, comprehensive testing of ABC News' election computer systems to verify that we receive all data from our data providers in real time and that it is accurately displayed in all areas. This includes polling and vote data at the state, CD, county and precinct levels, as well as election projections and delegate estimates.
• Design, set-up and testing of statistical models and analytic tools used to project election winners.
• Work with computer programming staff to ensure accurate system functioning.
• Work with the Decision Desk team during all rehearsals, trainings and on election nights to ensure that everything runs efficiently.
• Training of ABC News staff on how to use our election computer systems.
• On election nights serve as a key member of ABC News' decision team, making election projections using a variety of data and statistical models.
• On primary election nights, assist in the allocation of delegates based on an analysis of the vote. Throughout the primary election season, assist in updating ABC News' Delegate Estimate as it changes between primary election events.
• Serve as one of ABC News' representatives on the National Election Pool Survey Committee and Statistical Committee.
• Work on ABC News/Ipsos public opinion polls including questionnaire design, fieldwork coordination, data analysis and methodological research.
• Vetting of polls and social science studies from outside sources for the news division.
• Conduct background research on election and polling topics.

Basic Qualifications:
• 5 or more years relevant work experience
• Experience with statistical analysis, modeling, and statistical software
• Experience conducting public opinion polls and knowledge of survey research methodology.
• Experience working with and analyzing state voter registration files
• Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high pressure, environment and consistently meet very tight deadlines
• Ability to work at night and on weekends during election season and during breaking news events
• Ability to work both independently and as part of team
• An interest in U.S. electoral politics
• Experience with computer programming languages and database management skills are a plus.

Required Education:
• Bachelor's Degree in the social sciences (e.g., political science, statistics, sociology, communication research, survey research, data science etc.)

Preferred Education:
