Represent the TU in the community and demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills. Travel and commitment to long hours is required during peak event periods and specialty publication deadlines. This is a fulltime, onsite position.
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Serve as the senior community liaison/representative in all regions in the Capital Region and any expansion counties per Times Union.
• Build relationships with key businesses, community leadership, and nonprofit organizations within the Capital Region, and the expansion of Times Union north of Saratoga and south of Poughkeepsie.
• Review grant applications, verify nonprofits 501C-3, digitize IRS Determination letters, review sponsorship levels, meet with the nonprofit, create grant acceptance letter with the deliverables, create event in calendar, record grant, print and file letter, assign an account representative, provide contact information, attach letter to Salesforce grant account and follow up to make sure all deliverables are accounted for and review client’s website for TU logo online & print.
• Manage and grow the Hearst Gives Back Volunteer Program by attending meetings and engaging with Hearst Corporate to create volunteer opportunities for the Times Union. Seek Non-profits to provide volunteers to boost employee morale and form a volunteer team. Managed through the Benevity software platform.
• Create donation opportunities within the Benevity program for Times Union employees.
• Manage major revenue generating events/publications: Jefferson Awards, Capital Region Best Mom, Capital Region Gives. Work with Sales Representatives to secure sponsorships for the events, plan strategies for increasing revenue for specialty publications, creating website content for each publication with marketing and host of related tasks.
• Help Account Representatives cultivate sales appointments for them and assisting with Community Engagement specialty sections.
• Serve as the liaison with Internal Communications between operations, advertising, and editorial.
• Represent the TU at Women@Work (W@W) events (e.g., Non-profit events, B reakfast Events of Women Who Lead, Special Events, Innovator Events, etc.), and manage multiple responsibilities within the W@W Networking Group.
• Additional duties as assigned by the Publisher.
Qualifications
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Education: BA degree in Community Relations, Marketing, Communications, or Business, or 5-7 years related experience.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of Community Relations Experience.
Required Skills:
• Demonstrated ability to provide strategic planning support and leadership. Self-starter attitude and ability to lead with solutions.
• Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including MS Teams to host meetings.
• Proven ability to interact with individuals of diverse backgrounds and the general public with tact, diplomacy, poise and positive results.
• Excellent verbal and written skills.
• Ability to speak effectively before groups and individuals.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships internally and externally to achieve common goals.
• Strong knowledge of community engagement practices
• Reliable transportation to travel to appointments and events as needed.
• Ability to work outside the normal workday to expand and enhance Times Union’s position in the community.
