Torrance Transit is accepting applications for a TEMPORARY Human Resources Technician!

Torrance Transit is currently seeking an energetic, para-professional to join the Torrance Transit Team. The Temporary Transit Human Resources Technician is responsible for providing excellent customer service to the public and City staff while performing Human Resources tasks and functions in support of the services provided by Torrance Transit.

In this fast-paced environment, the Temporary Transit Human Resources Technician performs a wide variety of Human Resources and administrative support functions, including assistance in the hiring and leave processes for Transit employees, the development, review and tracking of performance management (i.e. discipline, evaluations, etc.), and working effectively with various Transit employees from Bus Operators to front-line management.

The Temporary Transit Human Resources Technician will also maintain a variety of logs, records and files that include confidential personnel records and have a good understanding of Human Resources practices and laws. This position participates in special projects and performs other duties, as assigned.

Any combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge and skills required is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:
Four years of progressively responsible clerical experience requiring discretion and judgment such as the development and maintenance of personnel and payroll record-keeping systems; coursework in Human Resources, Business or Public Administration or Industrial-Organizational Psychology and experience in a supervisory, senior or lead position over a major clerical function is desirable.
OR

Associates degree in Business Administration, Human Resources Management or a related field and 2 years of clerical work related to Human Resources.
OR

Bachelors degree in Business, Human Resources Management, Industrial-Organizational Psychology or a related field and 6 months of responsible clerical/secretarial work.

IDEAL CANDIDATE
In addition to the minimum requirements, the ideal candidate will possess the following:
• Ability to interpret and apply Human Resources laws, policies and procedures;
• Familiarity with Human Resources practices;
• Customer service oriented;
• Outstanding communication and diplomacy skills;
• Technical skill with word processing, spreadsheets, and databases;
• Excellent proofreading skills and attention to detail;
• Highly organized;
• Ability to maintain confidential information; and
• Ability to work independently and adapt to shifting assignments and priorities in a proactive service environment.
