NeighborImpact Head Start and Early Head Start provides free quality preschool and social services to 445 children and families from pregnant woman to children ages 0-5 throughout Crook and Deschutes County. Overview of Key Duties and Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for providing professional translation and interpretation services to support communication between children and families, Head Start Staff and community service providers and to provide information on the cultures represented by families served.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
• Newly hired individuals must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 prior to hire
• Verbal and written fluency in specified second language and English
• Employment or volunteer experience interpreting and translating from English to specified second language and specified second language to English
• Employment or volunteer experience preferred working with adults in a helping or teaching capacity

• Must be able to kneel, stoop, bend, and sit on the floor to attend to children’s needs. This position is rated as active and regularly requires the individual to lift 30-50 pounds

JOB DESCRIPTION:

1. Translate materials and documents for all ISD programs.

2. Interpret for Spanish-speaking families as requested for all ISD programs.

3. Facilitate bilingual meetings with individual and family educational support plans.

4. Monitor and administer appropriate instructional strategies for families and children.

5. Administer standardized testing to English Language Learners.

6. Administer universal standardized preschool screening instrument.

7. Effectively communicate between families, team members, community partners, and students.

8. Interpret and evaluate with diagnostic and teaching staff for children birth to 26 years old for the purposes of evaluating and developing Individual Education Plan and/or Individual Family Service Plan.

9. Using employer-selected tools, prepare comprehensive screening of the child’s family, developmental and social history and recommend appropriate educational and community services and/or referrals.

10. Prepare required reports and provide necessary information accurately and punctually.

11. Coordinate services for young children in St. Joseph County who have special needs.

12. Support families and children before, during and after transitions at program enrollment and exit.

13. Complete and maintain appropriate paperwork for program to meet Michigan Department of Education and/or ISD requirements.

14. Develop an appropriate schedule.

15. Maintain infant, child and adult CPR/AED and first aid certification.

16. Maintain appropriate communication log, records and reports regarding evaluations and contract with children, their families and community partners.

17. Participate in professional development activities as appropriate and/or requested.

18. Other duties assigned.
