The Job:

SmartStart Education seeks a small group math tutor to work with small groups of elementary and middle school students Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Each small group consists of 1-4 students who have been identified as students who are struggling with fundamental math skills (i.e. fact fluency, number identification, addition, subtraction).

Tutors will work with each group several times throughout the week at an elementary/middle school in Bridgeport, CT. Groups will take place within the classroom (push-in services) or outside of the classroom (pull-out services). Tutors should be flexible and comfortable with both settings. Each tutor will be given the responsibility of taking daily attendance using a personal device (mobile phone, tablet, or laptop).

Job Details:

The tutoring position begins promptly on April 9, 2024 and ends on May 30, 20204. The schedule will be Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 8:30 am through 12:30 pm. The schedule is set by our partnering schools and cannot be modified.
• Applicants are encouraged to schedule interviews as soon as possible to allow ample time to complete onboarding steps. Failure to do so may result in a position being unavailable.

Job Summary

The Learning Commons is seeking part-time, temporary tutors to work in person on the Downtown or Southwest campuses, with the possibility of additional online tutoring hours.

Job Duties:

Tutors help students learn by working with them one-on-one to better understand course material and to develop academic and study skills. Additional duties include writing session reports, tracking hours and entering visit information in TracCloud, and completing mandatory paid training.

We are particularly interested in those qualified to tutor biology, chemistry, computer information technology, ESL, math, physics, and writing.

Tutors typically work between 6-16 hours per week (with the weekly schedule remaining the same across a semester). Tutoring is open Monday-Thursday, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm (in person and online) and 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm (online only), though this may change on a semester by semester basis.

Please note that this is a tutor pool, and we will only contact applicants on an as-needed basis.

Minimum Qualifications:

Expected or earned master’s degree in the discipline(s) you would like to tutor.
Two professional references, at least one of whom is a faculty member in the discipline you would like to tutor.
Positive attitude and friendly demeanor.
