Working within the UCLA JCCC Clinical Research Unit (CRU) Division of TRIO-US Support Services, the Clinical Trials Navigator (CT Navigator) will engage with eligible adult cancer patients from populations... traditionally under-represented in clinical research, aiding in their gator works with the UCLA JCCC and TRIO-US research team to clinical trials and supporting them through the journey of study participation. The ultimate goal of the Clinical Trials Navigator is to promote health equity in clinical research participation, thereby ensuring the broad applicability of clinical trial findings to diverse cancer patient populations. The cancer CT Navigator educates patients about cancer clinical trials and provides support to address logistical barriers to trial participation including but not limited to, transportation, appointment reminders, and linkages to community services. The CT Navigator screens cancer provider schedules for under-represented patients receiving cancer care, assesses if there are clinical trials available for their particular cancer and cancer stage, and communicates that information to the care provider and their team. Among this population, the CT Navigator offers general education about clinical trials, performs needs based assessments for potential barriers to trial participation, and addresses barriers by providing assistance with transportation, referral to financial counselors and social workers, connection to appropriate social and community resources, and other resources/support as appropriate. The CT Navigator position requires skill in building relationships, including with patients, physicians, other cancer care providers, and clinical research study team members. The position must have the ability to provide support for patients and their family members who are responding emotionally to a cancer diagnosis in a calm and empathetic manner, and always with the upmost kindness.
