Under supervision of the Administrative Nurse, guided by policies and procedures of the Ambulatory Services, and in collaboration with the Clinical Nursing Staff, the Hospital Assistant III (Medical Assistant) assists in the delivery of care to patients in multiple Cancer Center ambulatory group practices. This position supports the Cancer Services and Ambulatory Services and Infusion Unit. Work includes a variety of personal care and nursing procedures including assuring positive care outcomes. They will perform assigned patient care and laboratory procedures in support of the specialty care services provided to patients within the practices. They are required to learn and be able to assist in all Cancer Center specialty practices. They are required to adhere to the Telephone and House Standards as adopted by the Medical Center. This position requires the flexibility to work evenings, weekends and Holidays.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

The UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center is an accredited National Cancer Institute Comprehensive Cancer Center. As a Comprehensive Cancer Center, we demonstrate the added depth and breadth of research as well as substantial transdisciplinary research that bridges these scientific areas. The clinical services encompass adult and pediatric tumors across three campuses as well as regional satellite locations. Required Qualifications
• This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.
• All candidates must meet at least one of the following criteria:
o Certificate of training or graduation from an accredited MA, Home Health Aide, PCA, CNA, dental or paramedic program or college degree in a related field such as community health, infectious disease, public health or health education and 6 months of relevant experience
OR
o 2 years of relevant experience as a Medical Assistant in a hospital or medical practice
• Knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both directly and over the phone.
• Able to meet physical requirements.
• This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Health locations.
Preferred Qualifications
• Prior experience in a healthcare setting working in an oncology practice
• Experience with insurance verification, medical record data abstraction, medical assisting, or patient financial services strongly preferred.
• Degree from accredited medical assisting school.
• Bi-lingual or multi-lingual capability (Spanish, Cantonese, Russian) strongly preferred.
• Current State of California Phlebotomy Certification (CPT1)
License/Certification

Types of surgery common on this unit include Orthospine and Neurospine procedures including laminectomy, discectomy, foraminotomy and spinal fusions, as well as some other orthopaedic procedures such as joint replacements and soft tissue tumor removals
The unit focuses on cutting edge pain management modalities, evidence-based post-surgical interventions and advanced surgical interventions.
Nurses support their patients with an interdisciplinary approach. The dynamic patient care team consists of surgeons, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, pharmacists, dietitians, case managers and social workers.
Required Qualifications
• One year of recent RN clinical experience (within the past 2 years) in a medical surgical acute care unit
• Active licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California
• Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position
• Flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Health locations
Preferred Qualifications
• BSN
• Recent clinical RN experience in an academic medical center
• Three (3) months or more of orthopaedic/ neuro spine experience in an acute care facility

Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED
Two years of experience as a medical assistant.

Under supervision of the Nurse Manager, guided by policies and procedures of the Ambulatory Services, and in collaboration with the Clinical Nursing Staff, the Medical Assistant Supervisor works independently and has primary responsibility for the supervision of the medical assistant staff. Responsible for supervising the operational, human resource, and clinical competency skills of... the medical assistants who work in the practice, including staff schedules. Coordinates and assigns lunches and breaks for all MA staff, and re-assigns tasks when other MA’s are absent. Approximately 25 % of time is spent on administrative activities. The MA Supervisor oversees the clinic flow ensuring an efficient, well-run operation paying attention to room utilization, wait times and provider productivity.
As a working supervisor he/she also assists in the delivery of care to patients in the Cancer Center ambulatory group practices. Work includes a performing and assisting with a variety of clinical procedures, reconciling patient’s medications and communicating health care maintenance reminders to assure positive care outcomes. Performs assigned patient care and laboratory procedures in support of the primary or specialty care services provided to patients within the practices. Required to learn and be able to assist in all Cancer Center practices. Required to adhere to the Living Pride Standards and Telephone and House Standards as adopted by the Medical Center.

Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED
Two years of experience as a medical assistant.
6 months of supervisory experience. Demonstrated competency in current role can be considered in lieu of supervisory experience
Successful completion of required UCSF competencies for the job title MAII related to medication administration, vaccinations and nebulizer treatments within 3 months of hire.
Demonstrated skills to effectively supervise patient care support staff. Strong knowledge of practice operations.
In depth knowledge of patient support care clinical standards and care delivery, systems, external regulations, and internal policies.
Detail oriented, with the ability to apply analytical and critical thinking skills to quickly analyze problems, determine appropriate level of intervention, and apply effective solutions.
Solid interpersonal skills for effective collaboration and problem solving with all levels of management and staff.
Skills in written and verbal communications, with the ability to convey clinical and technical information in a clear and concise manner.
Knowledge of business software and specialized applications and data management systems used in clinic / center patient care.
This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent combination of experience / training.
