Job Summary

The main goal of Office of Residence Life is to provide a comprehensive living and learning program on campus that supports the academic mission of the University. Major responsibilities include:
• Hire and supervise undergraduate student staff.

This is a 9-month position in the regular title series with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2023. We seek candidates in observational astronomy, working in any subfield.

Our... existing programs include observational high-energy astrophysics, galactic dynamics and evolution, stellar pulsations, and spectroscopy of non-equilibrium plasmas such as quasar emission lines. Additional research includes studies of the nature of dark matter, neutron stars, and active galactic nuclei. UK is the home of the Cloudy project, an open-source spectral simulation code.

All candidates are required to have a Ph.D. in Physics, Astronomy, or a related field.

Successful candidates are expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate education and to be qualified to teach a broad range of courses in Astronomy. Tenure-eligible faculty are expected to build a strong research program in their chosen area with potential to attract external funding.

Lexington is in the heart of the scenic Bluegrass Region, with many outdoor recreation opportunities and excellent public and private schools. Our campus has undergone a building transformation in the last ten years, with capital investment in excess of $2.4 billion. Infrastructure investments have also revitalized Lexington, and it is an exceptionally livable city.
