The professorship is one of 36 endowed professorships comprising the Des Lee Collaborative Vision (DLCV, https://www.umsl.edu/desleecollaborative/index.html), which are distinct from more traditional academic positions in having a responsibility for community outreach and engagement. Therefore, we seek a broadly interactive colleague who is interested in crossing disciplinary boundaries within science and from science to the larger community.

The Des Lee Endowed Professor in Zoological Studies is expected to pursue an active program of research in zoology and oversee a laboratory at the University that facilitates the training of students. Areas of particular interest are ecology, evolution, and/or conservation. The endowed professor will be engaged in community outreach and will have teaching responsibilities. The professor is expected to take an active and integrative approach and exhibit, in his or her scholarship, both intellectual rigor and accessibility to a wide range of diverse audiences. In keeping with the Des Lee Collaborative Vision, the successful candidate will have demonstrated interest in, and skills relevant to, engaging scholars outside his or her focused research specialty, and in engaging a public outside the academy. Laboratory and office space at the University, in addition to all research facilities at the Saint Louis Zoo, will be available to the successful candidate. The position includes an annual budget in support of the collaboration between the University and the Zoo.

Job Description

Responsibilities

Monitor health and function of Mitel Connect Director (Build 22.11.9300.0), the primary phone system on campus. UMSL’s telephone system includes 2,600 phones, 50 Shoregear voice switches, and 7 VMware DVS servers for voicemail and call recording. Troubleshoot issues with switches and servers when there is degraded or interrupted VoIP service. Keep track of available extensions, telephone hardware, and software licenses.

Install new phones and assign new extensions for new employees: Clean and test a phone from stock, check for available extension, note extension and location in records and link it to a MoCode, create and configure a profile for the user in Mitel Connect Director, assign the extension to the physical phone, schedule the install with the user, work with Networking to ensure port readiness, and complete the install.

Monitor for and troubleshoot problems with copper lines and legacy Nortel phone system, including elevator phones, emergency blue phones, and courtesy red and black phones on campus.

Work with third-party support for more challenging issues in Mitel and to make sure the system stays up to date and in compliance with e911 laws. Work with server admins to determine the need for, plan, and implement software upgrades.

Process break-fix, password reset, and extension reassignment requests that come in through the Cherwell ticketing system and Telephone Services email. Work with other teams on projects relating to phones, i.e. fax over IP, network fax, 802.1x network security protocol testing.

Manages the installation and maintenance for the university's inside and outside plant pathway and cabling infrastructure.

Demonstrate a high level of initiative, independence, and maturity in all aspects of work; use creative and critical thinking techniques to identify and implement new or novel ways to improve products, services and service delivery.

Qualifications

of Philosophy in the College of arts & Sciences, University of

our faculty and student body for an Assistant Professor position.
Our successful candidate will have proven strengths in the
traditional areas of academic activity.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach a variety of
undergraduate and/or graduate courses across our curriculum.
Additionally, you will be expected to support the success of a
diverse student body at the undergraduate level, and actively
contribute to the M.A. in Philosophy program. The normal teaching
load for research-active faculty is 2/2 - two courses per semester
for two 16-week semesters.

You will also be expected to conduct research and serve the
Department, College, University and/or profession.

Qualifications

The successful candidate must have completed their PhD in
Philosophy or equivalent by the start date of the
appointment.

Candidates will be evaluated on their strong record of research,
demonstrable through existing publications in leading academic
journals and a research pipeline. Areas of specialization include
ethics and applied ethics, with a slight preference for bioethics.
Additionally, the University of Missouri System has recently
launched a strategic initiative on precision health
(https://precisionhealth.missouri.edu/). The ability to produce
research that contributes to this strategic initiative would be an
asset.
