CES ED Techs partner with expert pediatric emergency nurses, board certified pediatric emergency medicine faculty, and pediatric residents to provide expert family centered care for over 42,000 children who present each year with injuries and illness across the range of acuity from minor to critical care. The department provides CES Techs with an in-depth orientation, annual mandatory education, and continuing educational opportunities to include maintaining BLS, PALS, and ACLS as well as the opportunity to audit ENPC and TNCC.

This is a fast-paced, challenging position in an academic environment fully committed to maintaining EXCELLENCE in family centered pediatric emergency care.
AS DIRECTED AND SUPERVISED BY THE RN, MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE CES ED TECH INCLUDES: Providing safe and efficient care to children of all ages and pediatric specialties experiencing an emergency situation. Providing Patient & Family Centered Care through collaboration with all members of the health care team in order to meet complex care requirements of the emergency pediatric population. Provides assistance with emergency procedures, including but not limited to vital signs, IV insertion, venipuncture, wound care, application of orthopedic devices, 12-lead EKG, patient monitoring during diagnostic procedures, patient transport, stocking department supplies. Demonstrates competence in the implementation of technical skills required for the care of the pediatric emergency patient according to UMHS policies, procedures, and standards. Demonstrates critical thinking skills as evidenced by the utilization of a rapid decision making process in emergency situations. Demonstrates full compliance with practices in CES tech documentation while providing pediatric emergency care. Assumes leadership responsibilities in teamwork and pediatric patient care delivery. Identifies and assumes responsibility for one's own learning needs.
Required Qualifications*
One-year current experience as prehospital provider, ED Tech, or assistive personnel in an acute care setting OR successful completion of second year nursing school in a BSN program.
Current Basic Life Support Provider verification
Desired Qualifications*
Basic proficiency in venipuncture and/or IV insertion Current ACLS & PALS verification Excellent interpersonal communication skills. Excellent organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to work effectively under mental and emotional pressure of emergency situations. Demonstrated ability to function as a productive team member.
Work Schedule
Hours: Day shift hours will be 4-8 hour shifts (7:00 am - 3:30 pm) and Rotating Weekends and Holidays

Provide inpatient and consultative care to pediatric patients requiring Pediatric Hematology consultation throughout C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital under supervision of the service attending physician and as a member of the care team.
Perform detailed history and physical examinations.
Review laboratory and radiographic test results and interface with medical staff and patients regarding results and plan of care.
Timely documentation of history, physical examination, assessment, and recommendations
Patient and family counseling
Collaboration with other health care providers as necessary.
Coordinates discharges and works with outpatient providers regarding scheduling follow up appointments and evaluations.
Supports clinical research.

Required Qualifications*
Nurse Practitioner
Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner specialty certification in the State of Michigan.

Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
Certification as a Nurse Practitioner recognized by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN).
Current DEA registration required
AHA approved BLS
Physician Assistant
Satisfactory completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or one of its predecessor agencies, CAHEA or CAAHEP.
Certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA).

Responsibilities*
Provide inpatient and consultative care to pediatric patients requiring Pediatric Hematology consultation throughout C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital under supervision of the service attending physician and as a member of the care team.
Perform detailed history and physical examinations.
Review laboratory and radiographic test results and interface with medical staff and patients regarding results and plan of care.
Timely documentation of history, physical examination, assessment, and recommendations
Patient and family counseling
Collaboration with other health care providers as necessary.
Coordinates discharges and works with outpatient providers regarding scheduling follow up appointments and evaluations.
Supports clinical research.
Attend continuing education/staff development programs to maintain knowledge of current literature.
Required Qualifications*
Nurse Practitioner
Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner specialty certification in the State of Michigan.
Current specialty certification to practice as an Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner
Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
Certification as a Nurse Practitioner recognized by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN).
Current DEA registration required
AHA approved BLS
Physician Assistant
Satisfactory completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or one of its predecessor agencies, CAHEA or CAAHEP.
Certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan.
State of Michigan Controlled Substance License Required
