An account on steemit gets "stronger" if you "freeze" the steem coin into so called steem power. Doing this will increase your upvote worth and it will result in more steem rewards for both you and the account whose post you have upvoted (liked).
A bot like the links above works as following: you send steem (in the memo of the transaction), it will calculate how much of a % from the upvote your post should get and to finish the transaction: it will upvote and the user has made a profit.
for example:
user send 20 steem to upvote and the rewards of the upvoted post combine to 22 steem (a 10% profit).
The bot mentioned in the links also freezes when its voting power gets too low and refunds if for any reason it can't upvote your post (voting power too low to generate a profit for the user).
Furthermore, this bot has a delegation programm in which delegators (people who rent/delegate their sp to the bot) will gain a % of the profits made by the bot.
