About This Opportunity

The Strategy & Entrepreneurship discipline covers research and teaching across several areas: sustainability, strategy, entrepreneurship and innovation. The discipline at UQ Business School is recruiting for one position (teaching & research) in Sustainability at either Lecturer (Level B), Senior Lecturer (Level C) or Associate Professor (Level D) (Assistant or Associate Professor equivalent levels).

Applications are welcome from established and early career colleagues.

The successful candidate will: undertake research of high quality where they will have a growing international research profile and seek competitive research grants; contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and supervision and further development of the School’s programs; and perform administrative and other activities associated with the... School.

About the Discipline

Our researchers are tackling a wide range of topics facing businesses in Australia and globally, with expertise spanning start-up and entrepreneurial firms, the challenges facing larger organisations around their strategy, staying innovative, and addressing the challenge of climate change.

Research outputs of the discipline’s 21 academic staff contribute significantly to receiving the highest recognition for research in Business and Management in Australia’s excellence for research (ERA) ranking, recognised for ‘well above world standard’, an accolade held since 2010.

The discipline’s research strength is reflected in the top-tier journals published by staff in last five-years, which include publications in the Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Administrative Science Quarterly, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Global Strategy Journal, Human Relations, International Small Business Journal, Journal of Business Venturing, Journal of Management Studies, Journal of Small Business Management, MIT Sloan Management Review, Organization Science, Organization Studies, Social Indicators Research, Strategic Management Journal.

The area of sustainability is driven by academics investigating a broad range of topics, such as
• organizational and environmental sustainability,
• climate change risks and opportunities,
• sustainability transitions,
• environmental decision-making, and
• environmental and wellbeing governance

Sustainability research is a strategic research area within the discipline and supported by UQ Business School. For example, the school is a long-standing signatory member of PRME – The Principles for Responsible Management Education, which is a United Nations-supported initiative – and the Business Sustainability Initiative is research hub within the school. The Business Sustainability Initiative leads the way in a rapidly changing business landscape, championing environmentally and socially conscious business practices and designing strategies for a sustainable future. Within the discipline, research is funded by competitive international grants. For instance, Professor Paula Jarzabkowski leads a research team investigating the insurance of climate-driven risks and Professor Daniel Nyberg leads a large ARC-funded project on how industries adapt to climate change impacts.
