About the Position:
The University of Maryland Baltimore County is seeking a post-doctoral associate to investigate bioremediation of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB). A Ph.D. in Microbiology, Bioengineering, Environmental Engineering or related fields. Applicant must have a successful publication history.
The candidate will conduct research and development of a novel technology for in situ bioremediation of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) that employs PCB degrading microbes and activated carbon. The successful candidate will focus on identifying conditions that promote growth and activity of PCB halorespiring and biphenyl degrading microorganisms in PCB impacted sediments. Research techniques will include anaerobic and aerobic bacterial culturing, cryopreservation, scale-up in pilot-scale bioreactors, gas chromatographic analysis of organohalides and quantitative PCR. Research will include some field work at a Superfund site. Publication of research in peer-reviewed journals is expected.
The appointment is in the Department of Marine Biotechnology located in the Institute of Marine & Environmental Technology (IMET). IMET’s mission is to study the biology of coastal marine biosystems and ensure their sustainable use, as well as application of marine-derived systems to improve human health ( www.imet.usmd.edu ). The Registered Nurse must be PALS certified upon hire if the department is either PACU or ER. In the ER department ENPC or TNCC certifications are required.
Work Experience: Minimum of 3 years ER experience in an acute hospital setting is required. Management experience preferred.

• Performs all aspects of artificial airway care. Able to perform deep blind tracheal suctioning

• Daily/weekly preventative maintenance and calibration, quality assurance of ABG analyzers.
• Setting up and maintenance of croup tent.
• Familiar with oxygen delivery systems (i.e., nasal, venuturi mask).
• Familiar with measuring devices to include, but not limited to, pulse oximeter, Wrights respirometer, oxygen blenders.
