Summary of Position
To complement existing strengths the Department of Agriculture, Nutrition, and Food Systems in the College of Life Sciences and Agriculture seeks a tenure-track faculty member in the field of Plant Pathology who will study the biology, ecology, and/or epidemiology of plant pathogens relevant to New England agricultural systems. Using a variety of biological, biorational, evolutionary, or other approaches, the successful candidate may focus on sustainable approaches to plant disease management, strategies to enhance crop biosecurity, or understanding and improving host plant resistance to pathogens. The ideal candidate will have research experience in molecular plant-microbe interactions.
The successful candidate is expected to establish a high-impact, externally funded research program with applied relevance to food and farming systems; recruit and train graduate students; and develop and teach courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Importantly, the candidate is also expected to strengthen undergraduate education by providing directed research opportunities, an area of distinction at the University of New Hampshire (UNH). This position is one of two open assistant professor positions in the plant sciences within the department, the other being in the field of horticultural food crop physiology.
Candidates should upload the following documents at the time of application: Cover letter, resume/CV, research statement, statement of teaching philosophy, statement of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and contact information for three professional references. The search committee will begin reviewing applications on Wednesday, February 14, 2024.

Department
UNH COLSA Natural Resources & the Environment
Summary of Position
We are seeking a post-doctoral research associate in temperate agroforestry interested in conducting applied interdisciplinary research to evaluate the productive potential, climate resilience, and ecosystem services provided by different agroforestry systems in New England. Ecosystem services of particular interest include carbon sequestration and storage, hydrologic regulation, weed suppression, pest-pathogen regulation, crop yield, and biodiversity. Results of the research will inform the design of agroforestry systems adapted to New England’s unique biophysical and socio-economic landscape.
The postdoctoral associate will participate as part of a large interdisciplinary team of scientists and graduate students and will have substantial flexibility to develop their specific research focus within the context of the project team’s expertise and the needs of the larger project. However, there is an expectation that the successful candidate will conduct interdisciplinary research that bridges several relevant fields (e.g., ecology, soil science, hydrology, social sciences, economics) to address complex research questions related to designing sustainable and climate-smart temperate agroforestry systems. This postdoc position will support a 5-year USDA-funded project focusing on promoting climate-smart and sustainable agriculture for expanding food production in New England through regionally adapted agroforestry systems (Project “ADAPT”).
