The Chen Lab in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Toledo is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to study the role of calcium signaling and mechanosensitive channels in cell division. The position can start immediately and will be funded for three years. This candidate will lead the project to examine the... functions of polycystin channels in cell division. Mutations of the polycystin genes lead to the common human genetic disorder, Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease, found among ~1:1000 live births.

Our lab recently discovered that the polycystin channel Pkd2 is essential for cytokinesis as a novel mechanosensitive calcium channel (Morris et al. 2019 MBoC, Poddar et al. 2022 MBoC and Sinha et al. 2022 JCS). Nevertheless, the role of polycystin in the kidney cell division remains unexplored, a major focus of our newly funded NIH and NSF grants. More about our research can be found in our lab website https://chenqianfj.wixsite.com/chenlabtoledo.

The University of Toledo is a public research university located in Toledo Ohio. The department consists of more than a dozen research active groups focused on cell and molecular biology. Toledo is a mid-sized city with beautiful parks and several other public attractions, less than an hour driving distance from the metropolitan areas of either Detroit or Ann Arbor. The cost of living is very affordable.

The ideal candidate shall have:
• Ph.D. in cell or molecular biology
• Proficiency in cell culture, microscopy, and molecular cloning. Experience in tissue cell culture is highly desirable.
• A good publication record.
• Strong recommendation letters
