The Department of Anthropology at The University of Winnipeg invites applications for a one-year term position in anthropology, specializing in sociocultural or archaeology, at the rank of Assistant Professor. Subject to budgetary approval, this position will commence August 1, 2023. The selected candidate will join the Department of Anthropology, which has eight regular faculty members. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Anthropology or a related discipline and have a record of teaching excellence at the undergraduate level. The successful applicant will teach a wide range of anthropology courses at the undergraduate level in their area... of expertise. The successful candidate will also engage in research and participate in Departmental and University service. We are particularly interested in candidates who will contribute to the department’s commitment to four-field anthropology, experiential learning, engagement of students in research, Indigenization, and public anthropology.

In addition, the Developmental Studies program is housed in the Faculty of Education. We offer a... three-year multidisciplinary Bachelor of Arts degree; a four-year joint Bachelor of Arts degree in partnership with Red River College Polytechnic and Université de Saint-Boniface which enables students to receive provincial certification in early childhood education (ECE II and III); and elective courses to meet requirements for the Early Years stream of the Bachelor of Education program.

We strive to provide academic opportunities in partnership with Indigenous, racialized people, people with inner-city experience, as well as single parents, mature students, and newcomers. In addition to the preparation of early childhood educators and preservice teachers leading to provincial certification, programming at the University of Winnipeg provides additional foci on urban inner-city education, coalition building, and decolonial liberation work.

The successful candidate will have an earned doctorate degree or be a doctoral degree candidate who has all but defended their dissertation before the start date of the appointment. Doctoral studies should be in early childhood development, early childhood education, curriculum and teaching, or a related field. Certification in an approved early childhood teaching qualification such as an Early Childhood Educator or Early Years Teacher is preferred, as is experience working in an early childhood setting or community agency supporting young children, knowledge of child care administration, and familiarity with supporting young children with learning needs in inclusive settings. The successful candidate should have experience with or demonstrate their commitment to include Indigenous knowledges and approaches across all developmental studies courses. Our courses are currently offered online in the evenings. The successful candidate will be required to teach courses in-person and on-line, evenings, days and/or weekends as needed, and supervise field/clinical experiences in applied settings.

Evidence of engagement in post-secondary teaching including previous experience teaching at the post-secondary level is preferred. Depending on area(s) of expertise, additional teaching responsibilities in the Faculty of Education may be assigned. The successful candidate should have an active research program, one recognized by academic and education communities with the potential to lead to external research funding. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate collegiality and contribute to program, Faculty, University, and community service. The successful candidate will also demonstrate commitment to understanding and addressing systemic inequalities.
