Position Summary:
Perform duties to ensure that vertical transportation and conveyances including elevators, escalators, and similar equipment within the District are safe for use and in compliance with the EPCOT Codes, state codes, laws and regulations, guided by precedent and working within the limits of established policies.
Essential Functions:
• Perform field inspections of a variety of equipment to determine safe working condition and operation. Detect hazards or mechanical failures. Perform re-inspections to ensure cited violations have been corrected.
• Examine plans, blueprints, equipment, and materials for code compliance to be used in installation, repair or replacement prior to installation.=
• Conduct inspections of vertical transportation for new construction, construction of equipment for temporary use, and alterations of equipment.
• Conduct scheduled periodic tests of vertical transportation and conveyances as required by adopted codes and standards.
• Conduct thorough investigations of incidents where equipment or unsafe operation is involved. Generate report of findings.
• Stay abreast of codes and regulations in preparation for inspections and offering assistance to code related inquiries. Attend continuing education classes as required.
• Compile inspection reports to verify conformance of each unit to prescribed standards.
• Offer technical assistance concerning safety equipment and devices and methods of operation.
• Communicate with contractors, builders, and owners in regard to elevator code requirements, violations and requirements for correction of violations.Review applications for Alternate Means and Methods. Make recommendations to the Building Official.
Other Duties:
• Perform or assist with any operations, as required to maintain workflow and to meet schedules and quality requirements. To accommodate operational needs of our customers. Some irregular work hours will be required.
• Participate in any variety of meetings and work groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specified level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements, and policies.
• May be subject to perform or assist in the event of a disaster, such as a hurricane, or other emergency situation as assigned
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
Competency:
• Working knowledge of applicable state and national safety codes for elevators, amusement devices and special equipment.
• Considerable knowledge of the construction and operation of elevators, escalators, and similar equipment.
• Ability to understand and use discretion in applying technical regulations and provisions of the safety codes concerning the use and condition of elevators and related installations.
• Able to generate written reports and maintain files as necessary.
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with owners, operators, department personnel, and the public.
Required Qualifications:
Education/Experience Requirements:
• Two years of college in a discipline related to Elevator Inspection engineering and at least one year of Elevator Inspection work for an enforcing authority.
• Qualified Elevator Inspector (QEI) certification required.
• Certified Elevator Inspector (CEI) License required.
• Certified Elevator Inspector Supervisor (CEIS) Certification preferred.
• Regular, dependable attendance required.
