ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Media Relations
• Build and maintain relationships with domestic and international media and influencers as well as community partners from attractions, hotels, restaurants and meeting spaces
• Respond to domestic and international leisure travel media inquiries and monitor media leads
• Plan and host media events, FAM (“familiarization”) tours, and activations that show what the Richmond Region has to offer
• Conduct regular meetings with media in target markets
• Develop itineraries with regional/industry partners, arrange travel plans, and execute on-site hosting and logistics for visiting media
• Serve as liaison with Virginia Tourism Corporation (VTC) to keep their PR/Content team abreast of Richmond Region news and to collaborate on domestic and international travel media initiatives
• Work with VTC and Capital Region USA (CRUSA) to execute international media outreach strategies and provide relevant content for international media pitches
• Represent Visit Richmond VA at applicable industry events and travel media tradeshows such as the Mid-Atlantic Tourism PR Alliance (MATPRA) Media Marketplace and the U.S. Travel Association’s IPW
• Support community partners by providing them with media exposure
Content Development and Reporting
• Write and distribute content for press releases, pitches, articles, fact sheets, itineraries and other media/promotional materials
• Create and assemble press packets and welcome packages
• Consistently produce quarterly media e-newsletters and support production of monthly consumer e-newsletters
• Monitor, measure, analyze and produce reports of PR/Media KPIs including published stories, media pitches, share of voice, and reach using media monitoring software
• Manage media section on the website at VisitRichmondVa.com
• Maintain and update media contact list in the CRM system
Other Responsibilities
• Coordinate with appropriate staff on sales, group tour, sports and convention services inquiries as well as community outreach and promotion
• Collaborate with the marketing team and other departments on campaign development and content marketing strategy
• Support the organization’s consumer marketing sponsorships, partnerships and promotions
• Represent the organization on relevant boards and committees and provide consultation for tourism industry events held in the Richmond Region (ie MATPRA, BMTC)
• Assist with editing and proofreading tasks
SKILLS PREFERRED:
• Excellent writing, editing, proofreading and overall communication skills
• Knowledge of the current media and travel & tourism landscape
• Experience with media and public relations

Job Duties

This position provides exceptional customer service by functioning as the first point of contact for calls to the Science Museum. The Call Center Associate will be responsible for answering general questions, directing specific inquiries to the appropriate point of contact, assisting with discount issues, processing refunds, rescheduling tickets, and assisting with general membership inquiries.
The candidate will also be expected to demonstrate successful interdepartmental communication skills. This position will support the Group Sales team by assisting with answering general questions about group visits, organizing calendars and itineraries for group visits, assisting group organizers in planning and booking their visits, invoicing groups and maintaining documentation for all orders. In addition, this position may also assist in training other call center associates. The successful candidate will maintain an up-to-date knowledge on daily happenings at the Science Museum, including Special Events and changes in touring exhibitions.
This position may also occasionally provide customer service at the Guest Services desk as needed, which will require accurate cash handling and opening and closing duties.
Please note that this is a part-time position and will work up to 29 hours a week with a maximum of 1500 hours in a 12-month period. No state benefits are provided.
Minimum Qualifications
Customer service experience. Proficiency in Gsuite, not limited to Google Sheets, Google Calendar and Google Drive. Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks in a dynamic environment. The ability to handle interdepartmental communication; ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships and to deal effectively and courteously with other employees, volunteers and the public both verbally and in writing; the ability to successfully work with people of all ages and backgrounds in a fast-paced education environment; ability to be reliable and honest; the ability to set priorities and manage multiple tasks; superb interpersonal skills; sufficient visual and hearing capabilities to respond to public needs and for detailed work.
Must be available to work weekdays and holidays, some weekends.
Additional Considerations
ASL or Spanish language competencies a plus.
