The Designer will create and design a variety of digital assets to help promote the vast catalog of VIZ Media products. This is the perfect role for someone with a passion for great design, a commercial sensibility, and an interest in entertainment and pop culture!
What you’ll do:
• Conceptualize and generate creative designs for digital sales and marketing materials
• Work with the Art Director and Senior Designers on strategic and unified approaches for VIZ products
• Recommend solutions to the main stakeholders of all projects for potential improvements in aesthetic and design strategy to ensure that the design direction fulfills VIZ Media’s high standards in concept and execution
• Engage with feedback, generate creative solutions, and communicate with various departments to problem solve or address any concerns with promotional designs and execution
The ideal candidate has:
• At least 2-4 years of design experience
• 2+ years of experience in an agency and/or digital design environment
• Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat
• Ability to digitally correct images
• Knowledge of effective design strategies, particularly as applicable to online and social media communities
• Strong creative aesthetic sense and attention to detail
• Ability to multi-task, organize time, prioritize work, and meet deadlines
• Effective communication skills for interacting with internal clients and outside vendors
• Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Art, or a related field, or equivalent experience with a strong portfolio.

Compensation: $80,000 - $90,000 base salary, with additional variable compensation

The VIZ Creative Department is seeking a highly motivated Senior Designer who will lead the overall visual development and presentation of our Original Publishing list. The list encompasses both original works and licensed publishing with partners such as LucasFilm, Marvel, Nintendo, and more. The Senior Designer will design a variety of formats including illustrated, prose, graphic... novels, and deluxe collector editions, and will successfully drive projects from concept through to final production. The ideal candidate will have a passion for great design, a commercial sensibility, and an interest in entertainment and pop culture.
What You’ll Do:
• Conceptualize and generate creative and innovative designs for covers and interiors, logo creation, and other associated materials for a range of original and licensed titles across multiple formats.
• Work closely with the Senior Art Director and Editorial departments and collaborate with the Sales and Marketing teams to develop and establish strategic, unified, approaches for VIZ product, while keeping on track with deadlines.
• Ensure that the design direction fulfills VIZ Media’s high standards in both concept and execution and recommends solutions to the main stakeholders of the project for improvements in aesthetic and design strategy.
• Review and approve internal and printer proofs, with focus on the visual identity, color, accuracy, and continuity.
• Engage with feedback, generate creative solutions, and communicate with various departments to problem solve or address any concerns that may arise with the product’s design and its execution.
• Train, review, and effectively give feedback on the design concepts, layouts, and drafts of Designers to ensure consistency and high quality.
The Ideal Candidate Has:
• 5-7 years of experience in design
• 5 years of experience in a book publishing environment
• Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat)
• Professional experience in book design and multi-page layout
• Ability to scan and digitally correct images
• Familiarity with typesetting and editorial mark-up
• Experience handling diverse projects across multiple formats including illustrated and prose
• Creative aesthetic sense, excellent design skills, and a passion for typography and publishing design trends
