What you will do:
• Serve as overall leader of daily news coverage and is the primary point of contact in the newsroom when the News Director is unavailable
• Manage the schedule for newsroom staff that produce 55 hours of local content each week; Approve time sheets and time off requests
• Understand, embrace, and implement newsroom long term and short-term strategy
• Work with producers, executive producers, photographers, reporters, and digital team to create compelling and competitive newscasts; review daily newscasts and other content for quality control
• Work with Assignment desk to determine best schedules for employees to maximize daily coverage
• Serve as a “go-to” source for employees to discuss daily coverage issues
• Work with News Director to manage, evaluate, and motivate employees and news operations
• Assist the News Director with recruiting, developing, and retaining a strong news team
What you will bring:
• Excellent news judgment and ability to problem solve
• Strong journalism, broadcast, news writing and web skills; Ability to stay focused in breaking news situations
• Foster an environment of good culture and inclusion; must demonstrate fairness and sensitivity in all interactions with employees and news subjects, stressing fairness, balance, and consistency
• Self-motivated team player & leader with exceptional people skills to execute the station’s overall news mission
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize tasks & people, and meet deadlines in a professional environment
Education: Bachelor's degree in Journalism or a related field
Experience: Previous leadership experience in a newsroom management role such as Executive Producer, Chief Photographer, or Digital Director required
Computer Skills: Proficiency with AVID, AVID Cloud UX, I-News; Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and all social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)
