The Team
The Finance Department provides leadership, guidance and oversight of ALIGHT’s financial resources. These ALIGHT operations include planning, accountability, monitoring, headquarters accounting, grant management and field financial support.
We have a unique approach to working with those we serve. Providing basic services just isn’t our style. As such, the Finance department is part of the newly formed Platform Services team. Along with HR & Administration, this highly talented and technical group is comprised of Finance, Logistics, Grants Management, and Donor Services. Platform Services provides adaptable and relevant support for our customers that will inspire and allow them to unleash their full potential.
The Role
Based in Minneapolis, you’ll be guided by and receive support from Adrian Abongmbu – Accounting Manager. Simply put, your purpose is to lead and execute the payroll process for Alight’s US-based (multi-state) and expatriate (multi-country) staff.
You’ll know you’re doing well if employees are paid correctly and on time, you ensure compliance with Alight policies and procedures, US government donor compliance, and specific US state’s laws..
Building a shared organization takes time and intention. We will always be becoming Alight, which means your work will evolve as well. For now, here’s how you could anticipate spending your time:
Payroll – U.S. local, U.S. Expatriates and non-U.S. Expatriates - 80% of time
Process payroll for US-based and expatriate employees in the organization (Alight + Affiliates)
Work closely with Human Resources to ensure payroll and all employee’s records are accurate
Maintain codes and their special calculations (if any) in the ADP system
Review online timesheets, follow up with employees and supervisors to resolve issues
Confirm payroll accuracy, submit to ADP for previews, review all company codes payroll previews and Supply backup documentation for all. Review HQ preview with Controller. Submit all to ADP.
Enter and process online salary wire payment for payroll for approval. Maintain wire transfer templates accurately.
Maintain employee payroll records. Review and ensure accuracy of leave accrual report monthly, make necessary adjustments and update at year end. Provide reports, answer inquiries
Distribute per Pay Period, Quarterly and Annual reports Quarterly and Annual reports (941/940 and W-2s.)
Report to department supervisor regarding daily activities and issues
Maintain up to date knowledge of payroll tax and ensure organizational compliance in Minnesota, New York, Washington, D.C. as well as ad-hoc states where fully remote employees may be based
Perform other duties timely as assigned by the Director of Finance or Accounting Manager
Audit & AP Support- 10% of time
Assist with year-end audit including providing all necessary documents.
Ensure all AP and Payroll files and supporting documentation are organized so they are Audit Ready at all times by maintaining them properly
Communicate any problems or concerns regarding procedures or any other issues with management.
Cross-train in AP functions and support cross training in Payroll/ADP
New or Interesting Projects/Progressive Responsibilities – 10%

Qualifications

We’re also looking for the following technical competencies:
Formal Professional experience or Academic training in accounting and finance and at least 3-4 years’ experience in payroll accounting.
Working knowledge of non-profit/fund accounting and ADP payroll system.
Understanding of U.S. and international payroll compliance.
Strong computer literacy including Microsoft Office applications
Computer skills and knowledge of accounting systems such as Serenic Navigator or Microsoft Dynamics Nav (Navision).
Detail-oriented, organized and respect for accuracy in numbers is essential.
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Ability to work well under pressure with distractions
Able to work effectively with minimal supervision and stay on task in a hybrid/remote environment
Physically able to work seated in front of a computer for long hours at a time
Highly motivated self-starter
Excellent communication, interpersonal and team skills

Salary: $62,000+ annualized, commensurate with experience
