CBS News and Stations is looking for a Vice President/Director of Weather Strategy and Operations - an experienced News Director and leader who will work on weather driven collaboration, storytelling and product development for broadcast and digital media across CBS News, Stations, CMV. This position will work directly with the President of Content Development/Integration for CBS News, Stations... and CMV to build an innovative weather team that CBS News and Stations is looking for a Vice President/Director of Weather Strategy and Operations - an experienced News Director and leader who will work on weather driven collaboration, storytelling and product development for broadcast and digital media across CBS News, Stations, CMV.

This position will work directly with the President of Content Development/Integration for CBS News, Stations... and CMV to build an innovative weather team that will bring together our meteorologists, climate correspondents, our technology and partners to reimagine our weather and climate coverage across News & Stations.

This leader will work with the teams to build premium weather content across all News & Stations platforms.

Must be a highly collaborative problem solver, a proven leader, and have a passion for all things weather and meteorology. The ideal candidate needs to adopt new technology, be able to build a plan to scale across all platforms, must be strong able to mentor and develop the weather teams across the group, and be willing to explore new ways to present the weather story.

Key Responsibilities:
• Recruit top leaders in the weather space to build the central weather team.
• Drive collaboration between stations by promoting real-time content sharing to increase efficiency and optimize our existing and emerging weather technology investments.
• Promote VR/AR adoption including presenting weather within virtual studios and simulated spaces to captivate viewers and hold their attention.
• Work closely with Senior Producer – Climate Coverage to cultivate a greater relationship with non-profit organizations like Climate Central for white-label weather and climate content that is local, interesting, and purposeful.
• Promote the development of new weather content revenue opportunities including weather forecast franchises and technology sponsorships.

Requirements:
• Experience: a proven track record of success in news and weather content, with at least 10 years of continuous leadership experience, News Director preferred
• Leadership: Proven ability to encourage a diverse journalism team, fostering collaboration across multiple news groups
• Build a strategy to collaborate with premium content teams, and groups like the news operations and transformation unit.
• Knowledge: Deep understanding of news and weather content, specific emphasis on severe weather
• Strategic Vision: Strong critical thinking and analytical skills to identify growth opportunities.
• Relationship Building: Strong interpersonal and communication skills to cultivate and maintain valuable client relationships.
• Travel: Willingness to travel at times to various markets.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Hiring Salary Range: $203,200.00 - 254,000.00.

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement. This position is bonus eligible.

This FULL-TIME position is responsible for performing a meteorological weather watch consisting of taking, evaluating, recording, and disseminating surface weather observations (METAR/SPECI); issuing Terminal Aerodrome Forecasts; writing DD-175-1s, issuing and disseminating weather watches, warnings, and advisories; responding to PMSV; and dissemination of... PIREPs.

Hourly pay begins at $38.02 Forecaster rate and $32.16 per hour Observer rate plus $5.46 per hour for up to 40 hours per week Health & Welfare. The candidate will be paid at the observer rate during the certification process and when working observer-only shifts. Night and Sunday differential is compounded to base pay. Duties may include occasional overtime. The schedule will fluctuate and be determined by the Site Manager.

Qualifications/Education Requirements

• Prior observation certification with the Department of Defense (DoD), Federal Aviation Administration, or National Weather Service, including two years' experience in observing, taking, recording, and disseminating surface weather observations using Meteorological Aviation Routine Weather Report (METAR) code
• Prior forecaster certification with the Department of Defense (DoD) or National Weather Service, including two years' experience in aviation forecasting
• Must have completed a DoD formal training program for weather observing AND forecasting or equivalent National Weather Service program. Must provide proof of completion.

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with the Navy's Flight Weather Briefer program
• Persons currently holding an active CAC or having an active security clearance within the past 2-years
• Experience with northeastern weather patterns.

Work Environment

The selected candidate will work solo in an office type atmosphere. Meals are taken in conjunction with the shift and candidates will have access to a refrigerator, microwave, and limited vending machines. The workload will vary and may be stressful at times when bad weather is present. The candidate can expect irregular work hours to consist of days, evenings, and weekends. Due to the nature of the position, the candidate can expect to be exposed to the weather elements on a regular basis. The schedule will be determined by the Site Manager.
