Oversees database management and maintenance, technology, and integrity of software systems for the Bureau.

Distinguishing Features of the Class

An employee in this class is responsible for maintaining and managing databases and website(s) and for providing technical support. Work includes overseeing the entering and updating of data for the websites (CRM & CMS), generating reports and troubleshooting. Work requires technical knowledge of applications software, Internet and Extranet systems, computer operations with interfacing capabilities and, operation with peripheral equipment. Work requires independent judgment and initiative. Work is performed under the supervision of the President/CEO, with some project management direction by the Executive Vice President of Marketing and Strategy and is evaluated through efficiency and effectiveness of software systems and platforms, actions, maintenance of up-to-date information, and feedback from users.

Essential Duties and Tasks
• Manages and maintains the database systems (CRM) and platforms for the CVB as well as the functionality of the web sites (CMS); oversees entering and updating of partner information.
• Ensures compliance with and maintains internal database controls procedures.
• Works closely with Marketing on website design, content review as developed by marketing platforms, leads/inquiries, reporting.
• Maintains and updates the NC Division of Tourism (VisitNC) website for New Hanover County; determines what information to include and how according to the State’s web site guidelines; obtains event calendar information from local organizers by state deadlines; gathers information for the yearly printed travel guide, etc.
• Maintains SendSites, Eventsforce, SkyNav and Act-On contact database and provides platform assistance to marketing and sales.
• Tracks and reports monthly website and platform activity, results, and statistics including leads/inquiries through website, phone, marketing collateral.
• Direct and maintain URLs; provide tracking updates/assistance in-house and to Agencies as needed.
• Provides technical assistance and advice to desktop users and trains and assists staff with learning office and specialized Bureau software.
• Provides minor computer hardware/software support and troubleshoots problems with computer operations.
• Reviews and recommends software needs.
• Handles the telephone/meeting system; assists staff with Webex, voice mail, messages; works with tech support company.
• Research, negotiation and purchasing of computer software systems, and monitors maintenance contracts.
• Set and maintain budget and invoicing for department.
• Assists industry partners and constituents with website and platform questions and provides requested information.
• Supervises Database Coordinator

Additional Job Duties
• Serves as backup where needed.
• Performs related duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Previous working knowledge of Simpleview programs and platforms preferred.
• Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows software and other specialized software programs.
• Considerable knowledge of web functionality and design, computer operations relating to the Internet & Extranet system, database programs and demonstrated skills in utilizing effectively.
• Working knowledge of math and its uses in general office work and computer use in reports and statistics.
• Ability to train staff and provide technical assistance with computer software.
• Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work effectively.
• Ability to function effectively as a team member in meeting the goals and objectives of the Bureau.
• Demonstrated ability to show initiative and to be a self-starter.
• Ability to analyze mechanical technological equipment operation problems and work with outside technology firms.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and written form, with users who possess diverse levels of computer software knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• Ability to collect and organize data and prepare it for websites and other related databases.
• Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with users, vendors, peers, supervisor and the public.
• Ability to document and generate database system reports.

Physical Requirements
• Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
• Must possess the visual acuity to prepare and analyze statistics, to operate a computer terminal, telephone system and other mechanical office equipment.

Desirable Education and Experience

Graduation from a community college with a two-year associate degree in computer science or related field, four-year Bachelor of Science degree preferred. Experience in personal computer or networking applications and operations; database management and website development/applications. Experience/working knowledge of Simpleview products is preferred. A general understanding of leisure, meeting and sports tourism is recommended
