We're looking for a Content Creator/Editor to oversee the growth, development, and maintenance of educational content in an assigned subject area that will include, but not be limited to, technology and other applied sciences. Research and write text for use in both new and existing products, producing highly polished, engaging, and reliable content appropriate in style to each project. Content needs will vary from reference-type, curriculum-aligned articles to high-interest, consumer-friendly children’s books. Work with internal New Content and Content Maintenance teams, as well as external partners and expert contributors, to develop content aimed at readers of various ages. Maintains the currency of the assigned subject area across all relevant World Book database publications, as well as consistency in that area among database products.
Does this sound like you?
A Successful Candidate Will Have the Following:
• Bachelor’s degree in one of the sciences, preferably with coursework in physics and chemistry.
• One to three years’ experience in writing, publishing, or teaching.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office software Outlook, Teams, Word, and Excel; experience using Adobe InDesign.
• Familiarity with a standard style guide, such as the Chicago Manual of Style.
• Reading command of a language or languages other than English (esp. Arabic, Chinese, French, or Spanish) desirable.
Here’s a look at the essential duties of this role:
• Keeps abreast of developments in assigned science and technology subject areas, as well as for other assigned articles, on a daily basis and maintains the accuracy, comprehensiveness, and relevance of content.
• Writes and edits text content to strict deadlines for both print and digital products.
• Identifies contributors to write or review articles, recommending fees, issuing deadlines, and conducting follow-up correspondence. Maintains records of manuscript acquisition and progress of articles toward publication.
• Edits or copyedits articles, following World Book’s editing style.
• Works with designers in formulating ideas for illustrating content, participates in the acquisition and review of photos and artwork, and prepares captions.
• Writes and edits marketing materials relating to new content and product.
• Aligns new content to curriculum standards.

• Previous experience in creating Marc Records from scratch.
• Previous call center experience of providing superior customer service to customers.
• Ability to meet deadlines and work in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, and Powerpoint. Ability to create and edit documents in Adobe and other software applications. Salesforce experience a plus.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to sit at a computer for long periods of time while processing orders and assisting customers with inquiries from both Call Centers and emails.
• Degree in Library & Information Science from an accredited ALA program a plus.
