This position will have a combination of administrative, clinical, research, and teaching responsibilities in the UCI Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation and Cellular Therapy Program.

Key responsibilities include:

CELLULAR PRODUCT PROCESSING

• Performs/supervises cell processing duties for hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and cellular therapies in the cell processing laboratory following the established SOPs and maintaining documentation accordingly.

• Performs/ supervises the procedures that range from cryopreservation to flow cytometric enumeration of cell proportions and to more complex procedures such as cell selections, including enrichment and depletion.

• In depth knowledge of and adherence to FACT SOPs, facility policies, procedures, other protocols, etc.

• Obtains and maintains FACT accreditation of the CPL.

• Troubleshoots procedures and deficiencies in quality of processed product.

LABORATORY MANAGEMENT AND ADMINISTRATION

• Establishes standard operating procedures (SOPs), chain of custody forms, certificates of analysis and other records; monitoring and assuring their accuracy.

• Oversees and is responsible for the adherence of the technical staff to these SOPs

• Obtains and maintains appropriate license(s) for the lab as required by law

• Maintains complete documentation as required by Federal law (21CFR 1271 [cGTP], 21CFR 610, 21CFR 600, 21 CFR 212, AND 21 CFR 2011).

• Maintains records in conjunction with the Stern Center staff for all clinical research products and in conjunction with UCI Health for standard of care products.

• Determines workload priorities for completion of job assignments in a timely manner to meet the clinical care requirements of patients and manufacturers.

• Reviews quality control testing results according to laboratory policy and procedure.

• Verifies results, monitors for completeness, accuracy, validity, legibility of documentation for a given product.

• Provides technical assistance within the CPL as necessary and within the scope of training or solicits same.

• In conjunction with the Director of the HSCT and Cellular Therapy Program, is responsible for hiring, training, and maintenance of the technical staff within the facility.

• Orders CPL equipment and supplies; develops an inventory system for ongoing supplies and orders.

• Establishes preventative maintenance schedule routines, designs forms for maintaining documentation of records of equipment maintenance.

• Maintains a laboratory and program project research budget to ensure efficient use of equipment and materials.

CONDUCT AND SUPERVISION OF RESEARCH LABORATORY

• Develops novel cellular products for early phase clinical trials

COMMUNICATION

• Writes memoranda, proposals, results of work, procedures and findings in a clear and concise manner adhering to FDA and scientific format as appropriate.

• Reviews, updates, and amends sections of SOPs as directed. Revises or writes new SOPs that comply with all applicable regulations (FDA and other regulatory entities) and guidance.

• Communicates in depth with other personnel on issues with processing procedures.

• Relates relevant information to others in a clear, accurate and timely fashion.

• Keeps immediate supervisor, laboratory director, scientific director and also medical director fully informed as to the status of work in progress.

• Attends regular meetings with the Medical Director to ensure delivery of quality products for transplantation and cellular therapy products.

• Participates in Quality Management Quarterly Meetings of the Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation and Cellular Therapy Program

AREA MAINTENANCE

• Ensures that biohazardous and other laboratory waste is handled/emptied appropriately, and that medical waste stream rules and regulations are enforced.

• Ensures that work areas and equipment are decontaminated and disinfected observing proper changeover procedures per SOPs.

• Ensures the work areas are kept clean, neat, and orderly as needed for cGTP compliance.

• Maintenance of HIPAA and other regulatory compliance.

• Ensures supply inventory is maintained at appropriate levels. 

Academic salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Applicants must have demonstrated capabilities for teaching, independent research, and original work. The successful candidate will support the needs and objectives of UCI’s Department of Medicine and Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center Cancer Control Program. Responsibilities will include research, teaching, mentoring students, and service on administrative committees.

Position description

The Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology in the Department of Medicine
is recruiting for clinical investigator faculty members at the level of
Professor or above, in the Clinical X Series. The level of appointment will be
dependent upon demonstrated expertise, skill set, and capacity to support an
independent research program. Positions can involve clinical and academic
activities at one or more sites including UCI Medical Center and/or UCI
Satellite Community Clinic locations. Faculty in these positions are expected
to be Principal Investigators (PIs) for investigations (clinical,
translational, basic science); and productive in the scholarly activities
matching one or more of the Institution's missions: Discover, Teach, Heal.
Faculty with expertise in Motility, Interventional Endoscopy, are encouraged
to apply, and join the expanding GI division and Digestive Health Institute.

Minimum requirements: MD, MD/PhD or equivalent degree, Board certification or
eligibility in adult Gastroenterology and Hepatology, and eligibility to
obtain an active medical practice license in the State of California.
Candidates are expected to lead and conduct clinical and/or translational
research within a specific area of focus. Areas of specialty include but are
not limited to esophageal, gastric, intestinal, liver, pancreas, biliary,
colon diseases, gastrointestinal malignancy, endoscopic detection of

The UCI Digestive Health Institute under the leadership of Kenneth Chang,
M.D., has clinical sites throughout Orange County, a population of 3.2
million, with a second medical campus to open in 2024. The GI Division of the
Department of Medicine is the academic home of 20 faculty, with 12 fellows and
2-3 advanced fellows.

Candidates will be joining our established Comprehensive Digestive Disease
Center, Comprehensive Heartburn Center, and Foregut Team. The Foregut team
currently includes 1 Esophageal motility faculty, 4 Foregut surgeons, 2
Foregut interventional endoscopists, 1 Foregut Medical Oncologist, and 1
Interventional PA
Candidates must have or be eligible for a California Medical License.
Candidates must also be board-certified Internal Medicine and Board-
certified/board eligible in Gastroenterology. The position will include
outpatient and inpatient consultations, procedures, interpretation of
esophageal manometry studies, supervision of fellows and residents, teaching,
and clinical research.

Position description

The HSCTCT Program at the University of California, Irvine is seeking
qualified candidates for appointment at the Assistant, Associate or full
Professor level in the Health Sciences Clinical or Clinical X series.
Appointment in the Clinical X series confers membership in the UCI Academic
Senate.

The successful candidate is expected to have a strong interest and a record in
conducting clinical and/or translational research, excellent interpersonal
skills, commitment to education and service activities. The candidate will be
responsible for inpatient rounding, on-call duty, outpatient clinic, service
on departmental and hospital committees, and teaching of medical students,
residents, and fellows.

UC Irvine is home to one of 53 NCI-designated comprehensive cancer centers and
one of only 23 institutions also holding a Clinical Translational Science
Award. Powered by all of the Schools within the University of California,
Irvine, UCI Health is home to the only university-based academic Hematology
Oncology practice in Orange County. UCI Health is building a 575,000 sq ft
Irvine medical campus that will double the outpatient capacity for cancer care
and house a 144-bed specialty hospital. The former will come on line in late
2023 and the latter in late 2025.

UCI is a top-10 public university in U.S. News & World Report and home to
several NIH-funded centers, including the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer
Center (CFCCC) and Institute for Clinical and Translational Sciences
(ICTS). The UCI Medical Center in Orange, the principal clinical and
clinical training facility for UCI Health, features the state-of-the-art
Douglas Hospital and a growing ambulatory network. A new hospital complex on
the Irvine-Newport Beach campus is under construction and scheduled to begin
operations in 2023. UCI Health is the only academic medical center in Orange
