This position is fully remote.

What you will do:
• You will support the carbon price expansion pilot and help prepare for the second phase of international office launches.
• You will create guidance materials to support WRI international offices and partner organizations to track GHG emissions and set science-based targets.
• You will lead Plastic Free July campaign and various virtual and global components of the campaign.
• You will be supported by the Sustainability Core Team, consisting of staff located in WRI’s US, Europe, and Indonesia offices.
• You will also coordinate with a network of Sustainability Champions from all of WRI’s global offices, including WRI Africa, WRI Brasil, WRI Mexico, WRI India, and WRI China. You will report to the Global Sustainability Initiative Lead.

Internship Learning Outcomes:
• Learn how to evaluate a pilot project and use the data to continuously improve an ongoing roll-out of internal carbon pricing.
• Collaborate with staff from various departments and WRI offices to understand and interpret survey data.
• Support staff in design and development of carbon price incentive materials and sustainable procurement resources.
• Learn about WRI’s Sustainability Initiative and how other nonprofit organizations approach climate action in their operations.
• Research existing resources from WRI’s GHG Protocol, Science-Based Targets Initiative, as well as Science-Based Targets Network and EPA sources.
• Design and develop web-based guidance that help to bring together existing resources for international and small organization audiences to adopt GHG and SBT.
• Research and coordinate with other organizational Plastic Free July approaches and resources, as well as data tracking platforms.
• Collaborate with the sustainability team on how to promote and engage WRI staff on the topic of reducing single use plastics and analyze participation data to summarize outcomes from the campaign.
• Attend weekly global sustainability core team meetings, typically early in the morning (EDT) to accommodate various time zones.

What you will need:
• Working towards or completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Sustainability, Environmental Studies, Architecture, Graphic Design, Communication, Business Administration, Management, Public Administration, or other similar degrees.
• Visual and graphic skills
• Ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner.
• Interest in environmental sustainability
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets, or equivalent spreadsheet tools

TerraMatch is an online platform and mobile app that seeks to resource local community organizations and entrepreneurs that restore degraded land through a trusted system that vets, supports, and monitors their projects at scale. Launched in 2020, match restoration champions with funders, TerraMatch also houses two reporting and monitoring frameworks that enable these small-scale project developers to update funders on their progress through a combination of field-collected data and analyses from satellite monitoring methods. What you will do:

In this role, you will learn about local businesses and nonprofits that operate in the rapidly maturing land restoration sector. You will connect with innovative locally led restoration businesses and nonprofits, learn about the financial mechanisms that support them, and contribute to the team’s learning agenda. You will also provide programmatic support to the Land Accelerator and TerraMatch programs by attending team calls, preparing materials for training sessions, and drafting communications and articles. You will be supported by the Land Accelerator and TerraMatch teams. You will report to the Land Accelerator Coordinator and the TerraMatch Project & Engagement Specialist.

Internship Learning Outcomes:
• Research restoration finance and capacity building, working with your manager to choose a topic of interest to you and the team.
• Support Land Accelerator training sessions by creating program materials and supporting live sessions.
• Work with the TerraMatch product development team to understand how digital platforms can resource entrepreneurs that restore degraded land.
• Review project developer applications for funding and capacity-building support.

What you will do:

In this role, you will work with the Program and Project Management Office (PPMO) within WRI Ross Center as it develops new systems and tools to monitor, evaluate and communicate our work internally. You will work cross-functionally with teams to develop a tool, process, and/or report that leverages program data and knowledge to strengthen programmatic transparency. You will be supported by the PPMO as you contribute to efforts to generate insights for decision-making and promote synergies across our network of offices and project teams. In addition, you will support other program and project management initiatives in collaboration with the Operations and Strategy teams. You will report to the Sr. Manager and work closely with the Program Management Assistant.

Internship Learning Outcomes:

To support the PPMO’s programmatic data management and analysis efforts, you will:
• Learn how to collect, clean, and store programmatic data in order to support the development of programmatic knowledge and insights.
• Transform programmatic data into useful and specific decision-making insights for project teams and management.
• Develop a tool, process, and/or reports for communicating knowledge to key internal stakeholders.
• Understand critical principles of data quality and how they apply to the programmatic data lifecycle of an international organization.
• Evaluate the data quality of data collection processes, datasets, and tools using a data quality maturity framework to ensure our data provides us reliable, relevant, and informative data for decision making.
• Understand how to track a non-profit’s program performance and evaluate impact.
• Build skills in program and project planning, knowledge management, and tool development for a large, international organization.
• Work cross-functionally with international colleagues.
• Have the opportunity to maximize your learning opportunities across WRI by participating in WRI intern programming along with presentations offered by the Cities program staff on work related to urban development, transportation, and sustainability.

What you will need:
• Pursuing a bachelor’s degree or are a recent graduate in relevant fields such as statistics, data science, non-profit management, business administration, international development, or engineering, among others.
• Experience with data analysis, survey design, and proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Python, R, Stata, or other software preferred.
• Communication skills in English. Additional Languages (including Spanish, Chinese, Hindi, or Portuguese) are considered a plus.
• Experience with project management, program management, matrixed organizations, or development is considered a plus, but it is not required.
• Interest in sustainable cities, project and/or program management, and international nonprofits is a plus.
