We’re looking for a digital journalist to focus on useful coverage of where (and what) people are eating and drinking. The ideal candidate is a highly collaborative, versatile journalist whose work has created meaningful engagement and discussion in the digital sphere. This writer will achieve results through publishing coverage in line with our core editorial mission: What Boston really cares about right now.
Responsibilities:
• Craft timely, well-researched pitches, and work on assignments with equal enthusiasm. Work on a range of stories, user-generated content, and guides by reporting and/or aggregating credible sources, separating fact from fiction. Write copy with a meticulous attention to detail, accuracy, grammar, and team standards for style, framing, imagery, SEO, and social.
• Primarily focus on creating content that serves our region. Conduct regular reader opinion polls, surveys, and quizzes. Analyze response data, identify trends, and quickly write follow-ups.
• Contribute content for food newsletter and exclusive social media posts and videos.
• Consistently voice new ideas and solutions that help improve our coverage. Actively contribute to brainstorms and discussions that impact the site’s offering.
Qualifications:
• 2-4 years spent reporting and writing for a media outlet, preferably covering food/restaurants in the region.
• Solid editorial judgment and the ability to write quickly and cleanly.
• A track record of successful, audience-focused work.
• A progressive understanding of the ways that readers engage with content on social, search, and mobile platforms.
• A willingness to adapt and be audience focused, with a curious mindset and a commitment to creating an inclusive work environment
The BGMP office is located in downtown Boston, near Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market, and is easily accessible by MBTA and commuter rail lines. This position is based in Boston, and candidates should be based in the area or willing to move.
