RLA supports life and social science organizations by... developing and executing public communications plan, conducting literature reviews, performing quantitative and qualitative analyses to shape program assessments and public policy reviews, and providing a variety of other writing support. Job Responsibilities
• Generate a wide range of science communications materials, including working group minutes, peer review summaries, web and social media copy, email campaigns, fact sheets, press releases, video scripts, and strategic plan text
• Perform communications planning research, such as identifying outreach channels and characterizing audiences
• Attend and document scientific meetings (both in person and via web or teleconference) on a regular basis, capturing high-level outcomes and action items quickly and accurately
• Translate or abstract technical papers into lay language
• Synthesize written and oral comments from multiple sources into coherent, logically organized documents that highlight key points and minimize redundancy
• Other responsibilities may depend on background/skills: opportunities may include involvement in data analysis; proposal writing; and/or project management
Job Qualifications
Required Skills and Experience
• Successful experience writing about scientific and/or technical material
• Strong verbal and outstanding written communication skills
• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
• “Can do” attitude and ability to work well in a fast-paced team environment
• Commitment to a team-based writing culture that is committed to collaboration, constructive criticism, and continuous improvement
• Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks simultaneously, on time, and with limited oversight
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word (including templates, styles, and layout functions), Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Adobe DC Pro, etc.
• Ability to meet and maintain requirements of National Agency Clearance with Inquiries (NACI) and installation access requirements for Fort Detrick
• Ability and willingness to commute twice/week to Chevy Chase office and periodically attend meetings throughout the greater Washington, DC region (after current pandemic restrictions are lifted)

Preferred Skills and Experience
• Experience writing about or conducting research in biological, health, and/or social sciences
• Experience writing for both technical and lay audiences
• Experience with SharePoint and citation management software (e.g., EndNote/Zotero)

Education
• MA/MS (preferably in biological, health, social sciences, or related field) or at least 2 years of work experience

POSITION TITLE: Content Writer

POSITION STATUS: 1099 Independent Contractor

COMPENSATION: Paid by the project; competitive, based on experience and subject matter expertise

POSITION OVERVIEW

The writer must take instruction from a written and/or digital resources advising him or her on how to research, source material, emulate tone and style, and create effective messaging for a variety of channels.

SCOPE OF WORK
• Deliver compelling and well written messaging that accurately reflects the voice of our Senior Pastors while meeting deadlines.
• Create accurate, clear, and brand-relevant copy suitable for all digital platforms.
• Utilize best practices to ensure all deliverables support wider online objectives such as back linking, SEO optimization and keyword utilization.
• Perform supplemental research as necessary to round out messages and communicate topics.
• Navigate Faith Life ministry content, video, sermons, books and follow detailed written and/or digital instruction.
• Properly vet and use hashtags in content.
• Proofread copy to check for spelling and grammar errors.
• Develop an understanding of the personality and communication style of our Senior Pastors and adjust deliverables to fit that style.
• Amend, revise or redevelop messages in response to feedback from the managing editor.
• Use Microsoft Office / Google / Project Mgmt. platforms to submit all project deliverables in a timely and accurate manner.
• Ensure all project deliverables meet or exceed Faith Life Church ministry standards.

• Strong understanding of SEO and keyword optimization.
