RESEARCH ANALYST

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
This is a technical position with responsibility for providing assistance in the activities related to evaluation and research for the school district. The work includes planning, developing, coordinating and implementing program evaluation, student achievement evaluation and student behavior evaluation. While the ability to exercise independent judgment in the context of evaluation projects, direct supervision is received from the Director of Research and Evaluation. General supervision may be exercised over assigned personnel. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (Illustrative Only)
• Assists in the development, planning, implementation and coordination of systematic assessment of educational programs, academic performance and student behavior in support of external and internal evaluations;
• Performs specific analytic assignments as directed including qualitative, quantitative and statistical analyses;
• Develops reports of analysis and interprets findings;
• Prepares reports that include written, graphical and tabular presentations of data, as appropriate for educational audiences;
• Participates in the design and/or coordination of processes and mechanisms for collection of student data;
• Participates in analysis, interpretation and reporting of school test results;
• Collects, maintains and verifies student data.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
• Good knowledge of statistics and statistical analysis;
• good knowledge of the principles and procedures of measurement and testing;
• working knowledge of design and use of data collection;
• skill in use of computer software needed for data collection, analysis and reporting, including but not limited to statistical packages (SAS, stata, and SQL preferred), database and spreadsheets programs;
• ability to gather, assemble and analyze information;
• ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions;
• ability to prepare written statistical reports;
• ability to organize material concisely in writing and orally;
• ability to maintain effective working relationships;
• ability to manipulate an alpha-numeric keyboard and use software for statistical analysis;
• initiative; tact; courtesy; resourcefulness; good judgement;
• physical condition commensurate with the requirements of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EITHER
• Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered graduate school with a Master’s Degree in Psychology, Statistics, Public Policy or a related social science and one (1) year of experience in social scientific research; or
• Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered four year college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Statistics, Public Policy or a related social science field and three (3) years of experience as described in (A);or
• An equivalent combination of education/training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).
