What You'll Do
Evolving Data and Analytics Infrastructure
• Connect various data sources to PBI.
• Curate datasets, reports and dashboards in PBI.
• Develop fast and efficient .pbix files that produce accurate and reliable data.
• Write fast and performant database queries using a flavor of SQL Server to pull data into PB.
• Continuously monitor data quality and develop processes to improve accuracy and completeness
• Support business analysts in the development of PBI reports and dashboards.
• Maintain documentation of PBI datasets and reports.
• Incorporate static and refreshable copies of data from various AAAS departments and sources into a SQL warehouse.
• Connect siloed data sources.
• Participate in efforts to identify and pilot test tools and technology that will advance our data infrastructure and data governance.
Project Implementation
• Plan and implement projects across the lifecycle (conception/initiation, planning, execution, and closeout).
• Create and maintain project plans to ensure timely delivery to internal customers.
• Manage resources to ensure projects are completed on time and in budget.
Training and Mentoring
• Update and maintain PBI Author training materials.
• Conduct quarterly PBI Author Trainings and Monthly Power BI Power User Meetings.
• Become deeply familiar with PBI and stay up to date as it evolves.
• Coach and mentor junior staff.
Minimum Requirements
• BA/BS and at least 7 years of experience working with large, complex datasets using SQL and R, or MA/MS with 5 years of relevant experience, or PhD with 1-2 years of relevant experience. Degree(s) must be from an accredited college or university in statistics, economics, social science, or a mathematical discipline, with statistics, research methods, and analysis coursework.
• Experience analyzing large-scale customer databases and evaluating the contents and quality of data.
• Experience with ETL and curating datasets from various data sources.
• Experience performing business, data, and/or marketing analytics preferably related to analysis of large data sets.
• Demonstrated experience managing projects from start to finish.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience presenting and synthesizing data analyses in a visually appealing and understandable method (e.g., charts, graphs, etc.).
• Proficient in: Power BI, SQL, R, and Python.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and take initiative, using good judgement.

This is a paid, full-time summer internship and will last 12 weeks.
What You'll Do
• Assist with all stages of the Experts on Camera program, including:
• Identifying science topics that will interest reporters, and pitching them internally;
• Finding candidate scientists to feature who have news-relevant expertise and are great communicators;
• Building relationships with scientist participants;
• Managing interview logistics, including scheduling, a/v setup, Zoom hosting, and live troubleshooting;
• Helping prep scientist participants, including via mock interviews;
• Editing and producing interview videos;
• Providing media relations support, including identifying reporters to pitch, conducting outreach, scheduling interviews, and finding published media clips;
• Disseminating follow-up surveys to collect feedback from interview participants;
