About the role...
We have an exciting opportunity to be part of a small multi-disciplinary engineering team developing Maritime Satellite Communications systems.
You will be involved in the complex projects requiring architectural design of new solutions, working closely with other functions such as procurement and 3rd party suppliers to ensure a consistent design architecture . The System Engineer will support the System Design Engineer in overseeing the engineered solution and will be responsible for the design baselines.
How will you contribute to the team…
• Support with the detailed development of Maritime MilSatCom systems, developing architectural concepts and designs in response to technical specifications. You will also support with solving issues with design.
• Define the performance allocation between the various components of the architecture configuration.
• Deliver outputs from assigned project work packages within cost, schedule and quality requirements.
• Interpret customer requirements and Interface directly with programme and customer team, to demonstrate technical competence and credibility in our solutions.
• Act as a technical lead for subcontractor and supplier technical developments.
About You...
• Knowledge and understanding of technologies relevant to Satellite communications technology.
• Strong level of experience of System Engineering is required
• Ability to prepare technical documentation
• Experience of quality and assurance management processes.
• Experience of R&D/R&T activities.

Position Summary:
Airbus U.S. is looking for an enthusiastic and creative Chief Systems Engineer to design and analyze new satellite and aerospace systems. We're looking for candidates who can bring exceptional engineering skills and strong experience in aerospace programs to the team.
Position Responsibilities:
The Chief Systems Engineer will be primarily responsible for leading the systems engineering function for a satellite program. This role will support satellite program execution through the full project lifecycle, from requirement development, architecture development and trades, specification development, requirements verification, compliance assessment, and operations. The Chief Systems Engineer will lead program design reviews and support configuration management and engineering review boards. This role will support the program model-based systems engineering efforts, technical planning, system integration, and risk and opportunity management. Being at the cutting edge of space technology, we need someone who is eager to learn, grow, and take on new and potentially unfamiliar challenges. There is no shortage of fascinating problems to solve.
The Chief Systems Engineer will provide autonomous support of complex assignments, under the leadership of the Systems Engineering Manager. The Chief Systems Engineer will have project and subject matter responsibility and authority.
Program Systems Engineering 75%
• Execute Chief Systems Engineer responsibilities for Airbus U.S. satellite programs:
• Requirements development - initial definition, decomposition and flowdown, management
• System design and trade studies - high level concept trades to support subsequent detail design
• Program design review planning and management
• Verification planning and testing - verification matrices, buy-off / sell-off, test planning, etc
• Model Based Systems Engineering - development of models and execution of systems analyses
• Support the development of satellite platform requirements and requirement flow-down to the various subsystems and components as necessary - in all phases of the development lifecycle with particular emphasis on Design for Cost/Design for Manufacturability/Design for Test approaches
Roadmap Development 15%
• Support Airbus spacecraft development product roadmap: includes technology insertion, schedule, and cost targets aligned for future business captures.
• Support the definition of spacecraft customization process for customer mission needs.
Additional Responsibilities 10%
• Perform all the necessary systems engineering activities to build, to maintain and to evolve the Airbus spacecraft products.
• Promote and optimize cost savings by reuse of the heritage platform designs and manufacturing infrastructures in the pursuit of various constellation prospects.
Qualified Experience / Skills / Training:
Education:
• Bachelor's degree in STEM (Science, Technical, Engineering, Math) or related scientific areas.
• Preferred: Master's in STEM (Science, Technical, Engineering, Math) or related scientific areas.
Experience:
• A minimum of 15 years with a Bachelor's degree, or 12 years with a Master's degree
• Proven track-record of working with aerospace hardware and/or software systems, starting from conceptual designs and tradeoffs thru detailed design, development, manufacture, integration, test, deployment, and operations.
Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities:
• Familiarity with elements of space mission architectures extending beyond the satellite platform - including launch, flight operations, mission CONOPS, user interfaces, etc.
• Experience with systems architecture, requirements definition and decomposition, and requirements verification and validation (System Specifications, Requirements Verification and Traceability Matrices)
• Understanding of model-based systems engineering practices and tools
• Experience leading and/or performing analyses for affordability, safety, reliability, maintainability, testability, human systems integration, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance or other specialties engineering disciplines
• Communicate in a clear and concise manner effectively across multiple levels.
• Be team-minded and ready to work in a multi-functional and multi-cultural, fast-moving and complex/technical environment.
• Flexible attitude and strong initiative.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver results.
Travel Required:
Periodic travel (less than 20%) to Airbus U.S. facilities or partner companies Occasional International travel to collaborate with European Airbus counterparts
