DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The incumbent performs lower level accounting work in sustaining and reconciling various City accounts. Unique to this position is the responsibility of the incumbent to classify continuous recurring revenue in order to provide timely notification... to generate investments. Work assignments are received from the department head and/or higher level manager and work is performed within an established system of accounts. Limited independent judgment is exercised in applying established accounting procedures. Supervision may be exercised over subordinate staff. Work is reviewed through analysis of accounts and records and through discussions on problems or details encountered.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
• Reconciles daily revenues by verifying the accounts, balancing cash against ledgers to assemble the daily deposit for each of the City’s accounts;
• Reconciles cash flow for all City revenue including: property tax payments, parking tickets, water bills, building permits, marriage licenses, etc.;
• Classifies continuous recurring revenue in order to provide timely notification to the Deputy in order to generate investments;  Prepares refund warrants;
• Maintains account-keeping records and reports;  Accumulates data and may assist in the preparation of the budget and other fiscal and special financial reports;
• Reconciles receipt of all City revenues against general ledgers;
• Posts to journals and subsidiary ledgers;
• Suggests and recommends methods of improving data entry practices and procedures for subordinate staff;
• May use computer applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, e-mail and database software in performing work assignments;
• Enters and retrieves information in an automated information system;
• Performs related work as required.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
• Good knowledge of City revenue sources and their corresponding accounts and funds;  Good knowledge of City fees associated with licensing and permits, taxes receivable, trust funds, Federal, State and County revenue;
• Good knowledge of basic accounting principles and practices and procedures;
• Good knowledge of office terminology, procedures and equipment;  Good knowledge of personal computers and office equipment;
• Ability to accurately prepare and maintain general journals and ledgers;
• Ability to assist in the preparation of special periodic financial reports;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A. Graduation from a regionally accredited or NYS registered college or one accredited by the NYS Board of Regents to grant degrees with an Associate’s Degree or higher in accounting, business administration or a closely related field; OR

B. Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equiva1ency diploma and two (2) years of experience in account-keeping, bookkeeping or auditing work; OR

C. Any equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above.

• Must be able to describe differences between basic and licensed accounts, and the advantages and disadvantages of each platform

Skills and attributes for success:
• Standardizes configuration across applications, promotes consistency and reliability, and supports production releases and installation

• Experience working with the Intelligence Community or Department of Justice
• Configuration management experience on an embedded hardware or software development program
• Soft skills include communication, teamwork, leadership, conflict management, critical thinking, and project management

Ideally, you will also have:
• ITIL v3/4 certification and/or SAFe Release Train Engineer certification

This is an exciting opportunity for an emerging environmental leader seeking a fast-paced internship.

We seek independent and motivated students with a commitment to environmental protection and an ability to handle multiple, diverse assignments at the same time. Strong research and writing skills and organized work habits are a must.

Training: The intern should expect training and onboarding the first week of the internship followed by ongoing mentorship and supervision from the Senior Manager of Government Affairs. The intern should also expect regular check-ins with their supervisor. The intern will receive training and relevant written materials to become versed about and comfortable with the range of Riverkeeper’s campaigns, initiatives, and mission.

Internship Duties
The intern will work remotely with occasional in-person events and meetings
Work with legislative staff to schedule meetings to further Riverkeeper’s legislative agenda
Develop an understanding of the Hudson River Estuary, pollution threats, environmental policies, and local governmental agencies
Lobby legislators and their staff on Riverkeeper’s legislative priorities
Assist in reviewing, analyzing and tracking legislation, and drafting memos and testimony on budget priorities and legislation
Assist in the distribution of memos and factsheets to public officials and their staff
Assist in monitoring committee hearings and meeting
Assist in drafting testimony
Coordinate coalition meetings and communication
Possible participation in hearings, meetings with government officials, trainings, and investigations
Assist in organizing and participating in advocacy events such as webinars and roundtables via zoom
Attend various meetings with Riverkeeper staff or independently on behalf of Riverkeeper
Draft blogs, letters to the editor and op-eds supporting Riverkeeper’s campaigns

Qualifications
Graduate student or law student strongly preferred
Available on a regular schedule for the entire duration of the internship
Skilled in working with computers, websites, online databases, and complex research topics
Familiarity with google drive software such as Google Sheets and Docs
