This is an AmeriCorps VISTA Leader Position (Volunteer Year of Service w/ Bi-Weekly Living Allowance)

Service Description: The VISTA Leader for SHRA is a once in a lifetime opportunity for a highly organized and enterprising individual to manage the structure, communications, goals, interventions, and outcomes of a place based initiative. The SHRA VISTA Leader will focus on providing support and facilitating access to services and resources that contribute to improving the quality of life for underserved populations. The individual in this position will strengthen the collaborative network of stakeholders; residents, non-profit organizations, municipal entities, and businesses that are committed to supporting the goals of the place based initiative. The Leader will coordinate 4 additional VISTA members as they facilitate their action teams, plan, develop and implement new strategies to improve the quality of life for residents within distressed communities. Note that VISTA Leader must have already completed one year of service in the AmeriCorps, VISTA, NCCC, or Peace Corps programs.

Job Description

Monitor summer feeding sites to ensure proper safety & food handling of meals served, ensure required forms and documentation is completed properly to remain compliant with federal program requirements. Maintain open communication with all program stakeholders ensuring sites are operating effectively. Provide additional training as necessary, reconcile discrepancies with diplomacy and tact, and provide progress reports to program manager.

Summer Food Service Program runs through: June 19, 2023 until August 18, 2023.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Build positive relationships with all program stakeholders, such as managers, coworkers, site volunteers, community partners, and program participants.
• Visit feeding sites to observe operations, make corrections as needed, and provide on-going feedback to maintain and improve performance.
• Ensure the quality and safety of meals served.
• Continuously monitor required forms & documentation for accuracy and completion.
• Provide training, feedback, and successfully encourage others involved in the program to achieve positive results.
• Answer questions, provide direction, and resolve issues that may arise in the day to day operation.
• Provide reports as required by supervision.

Service Description: In 2022, the Kansas Volunteer Commission
awarded the International Rescue Committee's (IRC) Kansas Office for Refugees
(KSOR) an AmeriCorps Kansas sub-award that that will fund service positions to

Duties include:
Assist clients to increase Economic Wellbeing as determined by the assessment matrix outlined in the Family Self-Sufficiency Plan (FSSP). The FSSP includes the following barriers to economic wellbeing: access to food, employability, financial stability, transportation, and childcare.

Implement and conduct vocational training courses that include on-the-job training, workplace orientation, mock interviews, creation of resumes, job skills development sessions, and skills recertification

Improve clients' understanding of digital and vocational English literacy

Support with self-sufficiency and employability plan development

Refer clients to job opportunities, job search, and application assistance

Deliver and update existing job training curriculum, as appropriate

Track attendance and maintain client files and database records

Administer client intakes, pre- and post-assessments as required, and document results in case files

Assist clients to increase Economic Wellbeing on the assessment matrix scale as outlined by the Family Self-Sufficiency Plan. This includes addressing access to food, employability, financial stability, transportation, and childcare.

Determine and assist client in accessing relevant employment opportunities.

Participate in all program meetings, development activities, and other meetings, as needed

VISTA Activities

Supporting the recruitment of high-quality VISTAs
• Reviewing VISTA Assignment Descriptions (VADS) for clarity, accuracy, and consistency and suggesting improvements
• Research recruitment opportunities and promote position announcements through local venues and digital channels
• Suggesting processes for candidate assessment and evaluation that incorporates VADs, assisting in screening applicants
• Assisting in setting up and participating in interviews

Conducting VISTA member training and coordinating ongoing professional development
• Participating in On-Site Orientation Training (OSOT) and ensuring VISTAs understand the policies, procedures, and project schedule
• Identifying any learning needs of VISTAs, developing a training calendar for VISTAs and VISTA task groups with topics such as cultural diversity, conflict resolution, poverty, and volunteer management
• Securing local instructors to present training
• Facilitating and encouraging peer learning among VISTAs
• Maintaining a professional development log for all VISTAs and distributing completion certificates.

Facilitating a successful year of service for VISTAs
• Conducting monthly one-on-one meetings with each VISTA member to review assignment progress and address member needs
• Assisting VISTAs in clarifying problems and creating their solutions (involving the site supervisor if VISTA cannot resolve the issue)
• Coordinate projects for National Days of Service (September 11th National Day of Remembrance, Martin Luther King, Jr. National Day of Service, and others)

Compensation

This full-time national service position provides a living allowance of approximately $20,002 annualy ($767/biweekly).

You also have the choice of one of two awards at the end of a successful year of service:
• $3,000 cash stipend bonus
• OR
• $6,895 Segal Education Award for future educational expenses or federal student loans

Eligibility Requirements
• Be 18 years or older
• Hold one of the following citizenship or legal residency statuses: US citizen, US National, Lawful Permanent Resident (i.e., Green Card status), and persons legally residing within a state, which may include those holding the following classifications: refugee, asylee, temporary protected status throughout VISTA service, and having Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) status.
• As this is a full-time position and requires 40 hours per week, candidates with full-time employment or currently enrolled full-time in an educational institute are not a good fit for VISTA positions.

We are seeking a VISTA member to join our team to help us determine: current baselines for how successful our community members are when signing up for our services; determine why members fall off in the process and where the process becomes difficult; interview and/or survey member who have use our services to gather information about what was easy and what was hard; review our website for accessibility problems; and provide a final summary of your findings and solutions we can implement. You’ll gain experience in nonprofit operations and homeownership needs while applying your skills in solving accessibility issues and developing engagement strategies.

If you’re able to take on this challenge, you will be helping people access down payment assistance, homebuyer education and advising, credit help, and home improvement financing. Many of our customers would not be able to achieve homeownership without this help. This is an experience that can make an impact not just for a lifetime but for generations to come.

Our VISTA will serve with us for the summer, from June 5, 2023 to August 11, 2023. If you are able to take on this challenge, you will be helping people access down payment assistance, homebuyer education, credit help, and home improvement financing. Many of our customers would not be able to achieve homeownership or make needed repairs to their homes without these resources. This is an experience that can make an impact not just for a lifetime but for generations to come.

VISTA members receive a living allowance of $675.08 bi-weekly and have a choice of the Segal Education Award ($1459.26) or a cash stipend ($345.80) at the completion of service.

Applicants must be: 
• U.S. citizens and at least 18 years of age 
• responsible, self-motivated, and able to handle multiple ongoing projects 
• able to work full-time with regular and timely attendance 
• excellent communicators 
VISTA Assignment Description

This summer associate will discover barriers customers face when trying to access resources and identify solutions to overcome barriers. They will discover current baselines for how successful customers are when signing up for our services; determine why customers fall off in the process; interview and survey customers; review our website for accessibility problems; provide a final summary of findings and solutions we can implement to help our communities build wealth through homeownership.

Objective 1: Gain a high-level understanding of the services NWHP provides for our communities to create new
homeowners and provide stability for current homeowners.

Objective 2: Analyze Salesforce data for lead conversion and service file completion success rates.

Objective 3: Collect feedback from recent customers and community partners who signed up for our services or
submitted a loan application and summarize findings.

Objective 4: Provide summary report of findings and propose solutions
