PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:

Identify, cultivate, and solicit major individual gifts ($10,000 and up) from current and prospective donors. Create and implement a comprehensive, multi-year major gifts campaign to support amfAR’s research and programs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Cultivate new and existing major donors and solicit major gifts.
• Work with the Manager of Prospect Research to identify individual major gift prospects.
• Work with the Philanthropy and Special Events staff to move existing donors to higher giving levels, create new fundraising initiatives, and develop appropriate solicitation materials.
• Maintain strong relationships with programs’ staff to anticipate funding needs and develop funding goals and strategies.
• Create short- and long-term strategies and outreach plans for the major gifts campaign; prepare detailed fundraising progress reports for the Director of Philanthropy.
• Lead one-on-one solicitations, and coordinate key staff in the cultivation and solicitation of major gifts.
• Coordinate major gifts activities with amfAR’s overall plans and strategies, in particular, the efforts of the Special Events department, and the Public Information program.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree. Three to Five years fundraising or sales experience. Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills a must. Must possess superior ability to communicate cure focused scientific work in a compelling and persuasive message with empathy and heart. Must be outgoing, confident, and comfortable in a variety of social situations. Proven track record of ability to close required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and fundraising software, preferably Salesforce, required. Knowledge of the healthcare field and AIDS-related issues is desired. Opportunity for some travel.

Directs the finance and accounting functions of international operations, and maintains banking, payroll, and other international consulting relationships.

Directs the conduct of the annual audit. Directs the preparation of audit and tax filing schedules. Oversees account analysis.

Maintains relationships with banking and auditing firms, service bureaus, and accounting software manufacturers.

Selects, organizes and manages a cohesive team-oriented accounting staff. Directly supervises Accounts Payable Supervisor, Income Accounting Supervisor and Payroll Accountant, and is generally responsible for performance and development of accounting staff who report to subordinates.

Maintains relationships with amfAR department heads, and coaches them in accounting policies and procedures. Maintains relationships with outside auditors and computer systems consultant to facilitate smooth department operations.

Serves as alternate of two Assistant Treasurers of the Foundation, with responsibility, under the formal oversight of the Treasurer, for

(1) the maintenance of all financial books and accounts,

(2) the depositing and disbursement of all funds,

(3) the authority to sign instruments of deposit, disbursement and related documents on behalf of the Corporation, and

(4) the presentation of the financial condition of the Corporation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A Bachelor's degree in Accounting and minimum five years’ experience in an accounting environment, preferably nonprofit required. Five years management experience required. CPA or equivalent experience, and knowledge of regulatory agency compliance policies and procedures, particularly federal preferred. Prior experience in international finance and accounting operations, and US and foreign government audit requirements. PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

This position contributes to the success of amfAR by providing administrative support to the Vice President of Public Information and the department’s senior management team that leads amfAR’s communications, media relations, marketing, creative, and content. RESPONSIBILITIES

Supports the Vice President with standard administrative support including scheduling appointments and maintaining calendars, composing correspondence, coordinating travel details and itineraries, and receiving, screening and directing incoming calls, visitors, mail and email.

Supports the Public Information department with scheduling, agendas, meeting logistics, photography and video shoot logistics, creative and media content logistics and planning support, key project facilitation and reporting, consultant contracts and invoices, subscription management and periodical circulation

Coordinates correspondence and feedback among both internal and external audiences, including public information vendors and consultants

Coordinates key department reporting and dashboard management including weekly and monthly trend reports, social media performance reporting, media recaps and editorial calendars

Provides logistical event support for key meetings and events including both department meetings and amfAR events

Supports media relations and social media teams on the ground at amfAR events with red carpet support, celebrity logistics and scheduling, supporting general media and celebrity solicitations, and social media tracking and recap logistics.Be specific when describing each of the responsibilities. Example: Determine and develop user requirements for systems in production, to ensure maximum usability

QUALIFICATIONS

BA in Communications, Marketing or a related field strongly preferred

Experience with global health media and knowledge of HIV/AIDS issues and policies preferred but not required.

Represents amfAR with the highest degree of professionalism and maintains exceptional written and oral communication skills

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple competing responsibilities at once, exercise sound judgement in prioritizing tasks, and remaining calm under pressure in a fast-paced environment. Superior organizational skills, and a commitment to accuracy and organization
