About the Role:
The internship position is responsible for supporting the Absence Consulting and Audit Practice team at Brown & Brown Strategic Non-Medical Solutions (SNS). This position will primarily help our Senior Compliance Consultant support our Absence Consulting team. During the time of the internship, the participant will be exposed to a wide variety of leave of absence and accommodation employer-sponsored programs, federal and state laws and legislation, and compliance research and will learn key industry terms and practices.
Core Responsibilities:
• Responsible for assisting with employment law compliance research and resource/intellectual capital creation, which includes but is not limited to:
• Monitoring changes to United States and Canadian leave of absence and accommodation laws to ensure compliance of processes and documents.
• Tracking pending state and federal legislation.
• Contributing to client compliance discussions and business activities.
• Drafting for peer review employer- and employee-facing communications, employer policies, and program materials and documents.
• Translating complex legal concepts into clear, concise, and appealing content.
• Be responsible for tracking and researching legal and regulatory requirements that impact client programs in partnership with the Senior Compliance Consultant and outside counsel as needed.
• Respond to questions and escalations that may involve policy, plan, practice, and program for compliance issues experienced by clients in partnership with the Senior Compliance Consultant and outside counsel as needed.
• Shadow and partner with Absence teammates on various projects.
Skills Required:
• Enrolled in a bachelor's degree program; Human Resources, Psychology, English, History, or Law preferred.
• Must be familiar with MS Excel, MS Teams and MS Word
• Strong written and verbal communication with ability to work well individually and as part of a team
• Proficiency with MS Outlook
• Awareness of employment regulations such as FMLA, ADA, and/or state leave laws

Essential Job Functions
The primary role of the Time & Absence Coordinator is to assist managers, timekeepers and employees on a firmwide basis with updating and maintaining the Firm's time and attendance system, PeopleSoft. On-going responsibilities include but are not limited to: updating timesheets and absence entries on behalf of managers and employees, monitoring and fixing timesheet errors, creating and adding schedules for employees, maintaining setup fields on employee records, reviewing and adjusting absence balances etc.
Essential Functions:
• On-going PeopleSoft Administration - Assist employees and managers with timecard, overtime, and absence-related questions;
• Adjust employee timesheets and absences, as applicable;
• Calculate vacation payouts;
• Ensure all timecards are balanced before payroll processing deadlines, including communicating with employees that have timecards which are not balanced;
• Run system absence calculations processing;
• Provide backup assistance to local office timekeepers during peak periods;
• Assist in overtime timesheet calculations; and
• Maintain and update on-going employee schedule changes.
Assist in Report Generation for Firm
• Generate various system reports to ensure that all timecards are in balance and approved before sending time to payroll, and also ensure that hourly employees' hours are submitted and approved each pay period;
• Generate and distribute reports upon request for employees, managers, and other local office timekeepers.
