Position Summary

The Archivist oversees the ongoing operations of the Asbury Seminary Archives and develops special collections to provide additional significant historical materials in support of the research needs of the Seminary community.

Essential Functions
• Maintains and develops the Asbury Seminary Archival collections
• In accordance with the Seminary’s Collection Development Plan, identifies potential materials for inclusion in the Seminary Archives and Special Collections.
• Works to acquire materials thus identified.
• Arrange included materials within the Archives storage spaces for best preservation and access.
• Effectively describes included materials for later display and access.
• Oversees Preservation
• Ensures the accurate appraisal of collected materials.
• Maintains the appropriate storage conditions for material longevity as resources will allow.
• Oversees the digitization of collected media and manuscript material as appropriate.
• Facilitates the work of relevant researchers in person and online
• Provides primary point of contact to researchers working with archived material and special collections.
• Prepares finding aids for use by researchers to assist in identifying and accessing collected material.
• Provides reference services to researchers concerning archived material.
• Furthers awareness of Special Collections and Archived material
• Coordinates promotional and informative displays of special collections and archived ephemera.
• Uploads digitized materials to online repositories as appropriate.

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provides direct supervision of Special Collections student workers and volunteers.

FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY/AUTHORITY:
• Manages funding/funds from archival collections that are on deposit at the Seminary Archives.

Other Responsibilities
• Cooperates with colleagues in other organizations for the advancement of scholarship and effective utilization of resources.
• Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, SKILLS AND ABILITIES, EXPERIENCE:
• A minimum of five years’ experience in the management, arrangement, and description of archives and special collections.
• Have a working knowledge of Anglo-American Cataloging rules, Library of Congress subject headings, Library of Congress classification tables, and MARC monograph and manuscript formats.
• Have a working knowledge of digitization rules and processes.
• A strong public services approach and outlook as part of a team of professionals.
• Commitment to assessment and continuous quality improvement.
• Effective interpersonal, communication, presentation, and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, shift priorities and cope with ambiguity and change.

Faculty - Theology or Historical Theology

Asbury Theological Seminary announces a search for a faculty position in Theology (with significant knowledge of Church History) or Historical Theology. This position requires residence in or within 85 miles of Wilmore, Kentucky.

Preferred candidates will demonstrate expertise in related theological disciplines and will be well acquainted with Wesleyan theology. The position is tenure track and the rank is open. If one is hired as a junior faculty member, a probationary period of three (3) years is required; these years will accrue towards tenure. Candidates with significant theological publications are encouraged to apply. Secondary expertise in a closely related area such as spiritual formation, cultural analysis, analytic theology, moral theology, or theological movements of the Global South over the past 500 years would be a positive asset. Fluency in Spanish, though not required, would also be beneficial. Applicants are expected to have attained a Ph.D. or Th.D.

The normal teaching load for full-time faculty is six courses (eighteen hours) per year, as determined by the Dean and Provost. Candidates must offer demonstrable pedagogical/andragogical competencies and effectiveness in teaching in face-to-face, online, hybrid, and intensive course instruction. Teaching delivery systems and hybrid residency locations are established by the needs of the School of Theology and Formation and Asbury Global, which manages instructional sites located in Tampa, Orlando, Tulsa, Memphis, and Colorado Springs.

ASBURY THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY announces a faculty search for a bilingual (Spanish/English) Assistant Professor of Theology (all areas of theology will be considered: historical, systematic, philosophical, or moral). This is a Non-Tenure Track/Three Year renewable appointment. This position will be part of Asbury Seminary Global which includes teaching online and hybrid courses at one of the Instructional Sites of Asbury Seminary. The purpose of this position is to teach select courses from the Master of Arts Core in the bilingually delivered Master of Arts in Ministry Degree (MAM). This will include a mix of courses in the areas of theology, churchhistory, ethics, or other courses required for the MAM degree to be determined based upon the selected
candidate's disciplinary expertise and experience.

Preferred candidates will be well acquainted with Wesleyan theology. They will demonstrate passion and gifts for cultivating relationships with and providing theological training for Latino/a leaders and their communities in culturally responsive ways. The applicant should have a PhD or equivalent degree in one of the major areasserved by the School of Theology and Formation (e.g., Theology, Church History, Philosophy, or Ethics).Fluency in Spanish is required.
