Job Summary:

Position Description

The Retail Sales Associate welcomes visitors and facilitates the sale of merchandise in the Visitors Center Gift Shop through friendly and attentive customer service with some additional responsibilities at the Visitor Services Desk as needed.

Retail Sales and Merchandising (90%)

Engage a wide array of visitors, including international travelers, in a professional and welcoming manner. Responsible for ringing up sales and adding value by sharing additional goods and services with visitors as appropriate. Sell tickets to attractions and keep accurate count of ticket stock. Manage stock of products on the gift shop floor by maintaining appealing product displays through merchandising techniques. Keep products and display areas clean and dust-free. Tag and put away incoming products in a timely manner. Keep stockroom and basement clean and organized. Perform returns and exchanges on merchandise. Open and close registers and Gift Shop at beginning and end of shift. Get to know the customer base and their preferences, to provide feedback on the product mix. Effectively communicate Gift Shop needs to Retail Sales Lead and Manager.

Visitor Services Desk and other duties (10%)

Assist at Visitor Services Desk by providing information to visitors in-person and via phone. Assist Visitor Services team with setup and breakdown of information tents. Provide support during parkwide events such as December Nights.

Key Performance Metrics:
• Opening and closing of cash registers on time and with minimal to no discrepancies.
• Accurate ticket counts.
• Incoming inventory is counted in, tagged, and displayed appropriate and in a timely manner.
• All store displays are restocked as needed throughout the day and fully at closing.
• Visitors Center and Gift Shop is locked, alarmed, and secured at the end of each shift.

Education and Experience:
• High School Diploma.
• Minimum 1 year of experience in retail or hospitality preferred.
• Knowledge of POS systems.

HOW THIS ROLE IMPACTS THE CULTURAL PARTNERSHIP:

The Ticketing Assistant will support the Ticketing Manager with the day-to-day operations of the Balboa Park Explorer Pass and the Community Engagement programs. Using your customer service and data input skills you will provide an excellent guest experience to all Explorer Passholders, stakeholders in Balboa Park, and nonprofit partners throughout San Diego County. As part of a small team, you will work closely with the Ticketing Manager to achieve project and sales goals. Since the Balboa Park Explorer Pass office is open 7 days a week, the Ticketing Assistant plays an important role as a weekend (Saturday and Sunday) Explorer Ticketing Representative and provides holiday coverage, as needed.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:

Process and package daily ticket sales for customers. As part of daily tasks: process, package, and mail online, phone, and form orders of the Balboa Park Explorer Annual, Limited, and Parkwide Passes. Occasionally this will consist of wholesale orders for Park venues and group orders for guests. Follow cash, credit card, and check handling procedures and protocols including reconciliation of daily sales (batches).

Support the Community Engagement Programs. Provide assistance with data entry and application review for Community Access Pass (CAP) and Military Appreciation Pass (MAP) programs. Understand and describe the program policies to inquiries. Occasional follow up communication via phone or email to nonprofit partners and Active Duty Military Service members, as needed.

Accurately input data and maintain a clean and consistent database. Be thoughtful and considerate when: spelling names and addresses, responding to customers via email and LiveChat, merging and updating appropriate accounts, and printing and packaging orders.

Provide a welcoming guest experience for all who visit and work in Balboa Park. Assist customers and partners over the phone, email, via LiveChat, and in-person (occasionally). Provide accurate information about the Explorer Pass including pricing, offerings, and rules and restrictions. Build friendly and professional relationships with partner venues. Learn about everything the Park has to offer to share with locals and visitors.

Support the Ticketing Manager with project tasks, as needed. After appropriate training, provide assistance including ticket system maintenance and updates, technology maintenance and updates, pulling reports as requested, checking supplies, and following up with vendors via email or over the phone.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Development joins Forever Balboa Park at an exciting time of growth and impact after the hire of a new CEO, a successful merger between two major park nonprofits and the launch of its signature capital project—the restoration and revitalization of the Balboa Park Botanical Building and Gardens. Reporting to the VP of Institutional Advancement, and supervising the Database & Donor Relations Specialist, and the Annual Giving and Stewardship Specialist, the Director will develop, implement and evaluate strategic fundraising initiatives that advance the mission of Forever Balboa Park. The Director of Development has the flexibility to create and execute new initiatives and processes that ensure a well-rounded development strategy for Forever Balboa Park. Conveying a passion for the park, they are responsible for creating a robust development program including our annual fund strategy, individual giving, and special events. This leader will also design and grow Forever Balboa Park’s planned giving, corporate partnership, and foundation and government grants strategy. The Director of Development will work alongside the VP of Institutional Advancement, the CEO, and the Capital Campaign Cabinet to ensure coordination with the Botanical Building and Gardens campaign, which is already underway.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategy
• Work closely with VP Institutional Advancement and CEO to support the Board of Trustees and other fundraising volunteers in a coordinated, donor-centric approach to fundraising.
• Sustain and grow the unrestricted annual fund program, including redesigning and supporting the Conservator’s Circle program.
• Create and implement a donor-centric strategy for cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of individual, corporate, and foundation giving.
• Create and implement a strategy for planned giving for the organization.
• Begin work on a strategy for government grants for future implementation.
• Collaborate with team members across departments to advance and enhance all related fundraising activities, taking responsibility to learn about projects and programs that offer opportunities for donor engagement, storytelling and/or giving.

Donor Relations
• Manage a diverse portfolio of donors, developing and advancing the donor-specific strategy for each.
• Ensure accurate gift processing and data management, and compelling and timely donor engagement and solicitation.
• Work closely with the Communications Specialist to develop messaging and materials for donors and prospects.
• Use storytelling to create communications that convey donor impacts and increase giving opportunities.
• Develop consistent methods to convey donor impacts and seek unique opportunities to leverage marketing tools for maximum philanthropic impact and donor engagement.

Management, Metrics, and Reporting
• Train, support and mentor two direct-reports, providing them opportunities for professional development and growth in the fundraising field.
• Identify and meet key fundraising goals, and develop reports to track and manage progress.
• Ensure the customer relations management tool (Bloomerang) is used consistently and accurately to inform data-driven decision making and accounting/audit gift reporting.
• Develop systems and protocols for the development operation as needed for efficiency, clarity and consistency, following fundraising best practices.

BACKGROUND PROFILE
• Fundraising professional with a proven track record of managing a comprehensive fundraising program, including successful solicitation and stewardship of individual, corporate and foundation donors; special events; and grant writing.
• Collaborative leader interested in developing a team and sharing their knowledge of development principles, strategies, and tactics.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and interpersonal. Comfortable speaking in groups and creating presentation decks or related materials for donor meetings and proposals.
• Extremely organized, and responsive to the needs of a fast-moving and dynamic department; effective problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Ability to engage and inspire a diverse set of donors, stakeholders, funders, community leaders and volunteers; approaches work with a growth-mindset helping foster a culture of inclusivity and learning.
• Ability to work some overtime, evenings, and weekends for fundraising-related events.

What a typical day is like for an Arc Program Leader
• Greet and welcome kids to the program at the end of their school day.
• Lead kids in recreational activities (and play yourself!).
• Help with homework.
• Do crafts, leading clubs, supervise play.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you will need:
• At least one year of experience working in after-school programs or youth recreation, especially in ethnically and culturally diverse communities.
• To be a good communicator, able to talk to both kids and parents comfortably.
• Your official or unofficial college transcripts that confirm you have 48+ college credit units completed OR you take and pass an academic proficiency exam.
• To be a problem solver, a team player, and a good listener.
• You must get a TB test (and provide proof that it is negative), pass a Live Scan background check, and have a current vaccination for Covid 19.
• You will be required to take CPR and first aid training or provide certification that you have been certified within 12 months.
• If you are an English-Spanish bilingual speaker, your resume will stand out!

The Program Leader position is part-time, non-exempt. This position reports to the Site Coordinator of the school site.

How You’ll Shine:
As a Maintenance Tech I, you’ll make dream vacations by providing quality results for our guests by using your maintenance skills, customer service expertise and guaranteeing each unit and building is in perfectly working order.

How You'll Make an Impact:
• Perform all general facility maintenance under supervision in a manner which ensures the preservation of optimum quality and efficient production.
• Perform service requests and repairs as directed (Painting, appliance repair, minor electrical, carpentry).
