Job Overview

The Director of Women's Basketball Operations carries out all duties within the stated philosophy of Georgetown athletics and its educational mission, and adheres to all institutional, Big East, and NCAA regulation to ensure the University's compliance.

Duties include but are not limited to organizing team travel and coordinating all team travel arrangements (e.g., transportation, off-site practices, meals), assisting in coordinating on-campus official and unofficial visits, and in developing recruiting materials (e.g., general correspondence).

They oversee the student managers' involvement in game day and video responsibilities; represent the University in donor/alumni relations and community programs; and - in conjunction with the Director of Equipment and Transportation - orders team apparel and equipment, organize and monitor inventory.

As well, the Director serves as the women's basketball liaison to the Academic Resource Center, and as the academic advisor assigned to women's basketball; and keeps the Head Coach informed as necessary.

Work Interactions

The Director of Women's Basketball reports to the Head Women's Basketball Coach. The Head Women's Basketball Coach reports to the Director of Athletics

Requirements and Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree and 1 to 2 years of related experience required or an equivalent combination of education and work experience - preference for a Master's degree
• Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
• Knowledge of athletics recruitment methods and techniques
• Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments
• Strong organizational skills
• Strong interpersonal skills that demonstrate an ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
• Ability to foster a cooperative work environment
• Valid driver's license with a good driving record; must be insurable.
• Proficiency with computer use and relevant Microsoft applications.
• Availability to work weekends and evenings and to travel as required

Frederick TBL is planning to start play in March 2024 to join 49 North American teams currently playing in The Basketball League (www.thebasketballleague.net).The league regular season runs twenty-four (24) games long from March – May, with 12 home and 12 away games. Playoffs are in June. The league is positioning itself as an alternative option for players who might be playing in professional leagues oversees and are hoping to build their careers towards playing against the highest possible competition. The TBL play is high quality – just a notch below the level of the NBA G-league.

When do we need Interns/Associates?
We are beginning preparation now for our inaugural season of play which will begin in March 2024. We are seeking Interns/Associates to start immediately. Other seasonal and year-round positions will soon be available.

What you can expect
Our Interns/Associates will have an opportunity to gain experience in each of the following areas:
• Tickets (Box Office and Sales)
• Sponsorships (creating, selling and supporting)
• Brand Management (creation and stewardship)
• Marketing (Social Media, Email Marketing and Promotions)
• Entertainment (Game Day Entertainment and Script Writing)
• Fan Experience (Guest Services and Hospitality)
• Merchandise (Team Store and Inventory)
• Press Box Operations (Videoboard and Video Stream Production)
• Media Relations (Website Management and Press Releases)
• Arena Operations (Field Maintenance, Stadium Upkeep and Clubhouse Management)

Additionally, Frederick TBL can offer opportunities in other areas, such as play-by-play broadcasting, content creation, financial services, sponsor activation and mascot.

The Frederick TBL Intern/Associate program is designed to provide training in each area so candidates will gain valuable skills that assist you as you progress in your sports career.

Who are we looking for?
We are seeking motivated, energetic, candidates with a goal of building a career in Sports management, or learning how to build a business from the ground up. Intern/Associates should be willing to travel and to work odd hours. This is a fun and rewarding opportunity for candidates who don’t require lots of structure and are willing to take risks and try new things.

The BasketballLeague (TBL), www.thebasketballleague.net, is a six (6) year old league playing throughout North America. In the Spring of 2023 there are 49 teams in the league, with 46 teams in the USA in small to medium sized markets, and another three (3) teams in Canada. The league is continuing to grow, with a goal of having sixty-four (64) teams in the USA and twenty-four (24) teams in Canada. Federick TBL is one of about a half-dozen new teams that have already committed to a market but plan to wait to start playing in the Spring of 2024. We are a well-prepared group with the goal of building a championship quality organization! We believe there are three (3) key legs of the stool required to build a quality franchise.
• We need to create and manage a High-Quality entertainment product that is appealing to a broad age range. We want TBL basketball home games to be a high-quality fun and entertaining event that people will enjoy, both basketball fans and non-basketball fans.
• We need put together an excellent Basketball team and basketball organization. To this end, we are interviewing head coaches now and hope to hire someone by June of this year so that they will have a full year to build and plan a team.
• We need to build a Community organization that is invested in Frederick County. Our goal is for TBL basketball, over time, to be part of the fabric of the community, and a team that the people of Frederick are proud of.

As we think about putting together our team, we have broken the operation down into four (4) areas of focus: Basketball Operations, Business Operations, Sales & Marketing, Legal & Finance. We are looking for Intern/Associates to assist in all areas of the business. Building a team and organization from scratch will be both demanding and rewarding.
