Qualifications: Candidates must have a master’s degree in journalism, public

relations, communication or media-related fields or a bachelor’s degree with five or

more years of more professional experience in those areas. Professional experience is

required to teach journalism and public relations courses.

Evidence of successful teaching at the collegiate level is preferred.

Essential Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities
• Identify, cultivate, and solicit planned giving prospects for major and principal level gifts. Manage an active portfolio of assigned donors and prospects and meet assigned metrics for performance.
• Develop and implement a marketing strategy plan to identify and attract legacy prospects through web, mailings, seminars/education sessions, industry partnerships, and alumni engagement activities.
• Provide guidance and training on tools, solicitation strategies, and giving vehicles to University Advancement colleagues. Attend donor visits with fundraising colleagues to assist with presentation of illustrations, legacy gift solicitations and closures. Develop and manage an advisory council of estate, financial planning and banking professionals to support BGSU gift planning objectives.
• Manage the charitable trust, gift annuity, and life insurance programs. Work with industry partners and the Assistant Director for Gift Planning to design, implement, audit, and evaluate current and future programs. Ensure appropriate documentation is collected and maintained for all planned gifts. Remain current in knowledge of charitable and estate planning tools, techniques, and tax legislation changes.
• Supervise and mentor the Assistant Director for Gift Planning.

Knowledge, Skills or Abilities
• Must demonstrate experience working with individuals on estate or deferred gift plans.

Advancement priorities.
• Actively participate in University Advancement’s activities and
meetings including, but not limited to, divisional meetings,
strategic planning sessions, prospect management meetings, and team
collaboration meetings.
• Coordinate prospect strategies and share call information with
other fundraisers through personal communication and electronic
contact reports.
• Work with Senior Directors of Development, AVP for Development
and colleagues in Gift Planning, Annual Giving, Prospect
Management, Donor Relations and Stewardship, Alumni Engagement and
Advancement Services to achieve the stated goals and objectives of
University Advancement, and to facilitate positive outcomes for
constituents, as needed.
• Liaise to assigned college/unit/program(s), and/or as lead fund
raiser for a geographic region, as assigned. Establish professional
relationships with University leadership, deans, unit heads and
faculty, and include them in engagement and solicitation strategies
with key prospects and donors, as appropriate. Develop and
implement a comprehensive short and long-term fundraising plan for
assigned college/unit/program or geographic region, or combination
thereof, to further the programs and fundraising initiatives of
assigned area(s).
• Meet annual visit goals through personal travel/interaction,
virtual meetings, or substantive phone calls. Meet annual
solicitation and attainment goals as developed in consultation with
supervisor and Advancement Services.

Constituent Engagement
• Engage board members, volunteers, alumni and friends of the
University through strategic personal communication, meetings, and
events.
• Develop and maintain a strong working knowledge of the
University, its programs, and strategic priorities.
• Actively participate in campus life, including attendance at
key events such as Homecoming, athletic competitions, student
performances, gift announcements, and groundbreakings and
dedications. Host donors and prospects at events that advance
stewardship and cultivate for future philanthropic support.

Data and Process
• Record pertinent contacts (visits, emails, phone calls) with
prospects and donors in University Advancement’s database, timely
and in accordance with divisional policies and procedures.
• Record and maintain accurate open proposals in University
Advancement’s database, timely and in accordance with divisional
policies and procedures.
• Follow all established processes and policies as established by
University and Advancement leadership.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice President for

THE PROGRAM Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS) is concerned with the study of human development across the lifespan, the dynamics of family relationships, and the context of family and community. The study of lifespan human development embedded in the context of family prepares graduates to work with diverse individuals and families from birth to very old age. The curriculum embeds a strengths-based, trauma aware lens and has received academic program approval from the National Council on Family Relations for the Certified Family Life Educator credential. We emphasize inclusion and equity in curriculum, teaching, and service. In addition to the HDFS major, we offer minors in HDFS, Child Life, and Child Development.

THE SCHOOL Family and Consumer Sciences is a multidisciplinary school dedicated to communicating, advancing, and applying knowledge that fosters the well-being of individuals and families. Primarily serving undergraduates, there are opportunities to teach graduate courses and serve on graduate committees.
