About the Role

The Specialist Application role will manage the application portfolio for the Legacy Asset business within BHP. The Legacy Assets business purpose is to manage closed mine sites and ensure responsible closure outcomes. Their applications include a wide variety of capabilities and platforms, including data management, industrial control systems, physical access, PowerPlatforms, and several others. This role will also participate in projects relating to application introduction or product improvements. You will manage the lifecycle of the Legacy Asset applications, and also act as an initial touchpoint and liaison for enterprise-owned applications within BHP.

This position can be from Tucson USA or Saskatoon Canada.

In this role you will

Operational / Day-to-day:

• Monitor and optimize the performance of software across the lifecycle, including the potential retirement/decommissioning of software.

• Assists with the implementation of remedies and preventative actions to resolve software performance issues.

• Identifies, engages and manages a range of diverse internal and external stakeholders.

• Adjusts effort and individual work activities in response to changing team priorities.

• Identifies and develops plans to overcome barriers to the completion of work or delivery of team objectives.

• Documents design decisions using clear technical language and in alignment with standards and security requirements.

• Assists in the configuration of software by testing and verifying that changes meet baseline requirements.

Projects:

• Negotiates user, functional, non-functional and business priority requirements for software solutions with relevant stakeholders.

• Contributes to software architecture design decisions, leveraging Cloud-Native design patterns where appropriate.

• Conducts ongoing assessments of new vendor and customer products and services to suggest those that are most suitable for BHP.

• Supports the management of vendor/customer selection, contracts, and performance to maximize operational and financial outcomes and mitigate BHP's exposure to risk.

• You have established a proactive engagement with key business and technology stakeholders relevant to each of the applications you manage.

• You are engaged and actively participating in upcoming and ongoing projects related to applications within Legacy Assets and with our Global Technology team.

• The number of issues or problems raised by our business stakeholders relating to applications has reduced. The work should be change-driven, based upon the evolving requirements of the business, as opposed to having the work focused on issue remediation.

• You are aligned with the business application needs and can provide input into the annual planning process regarding applications and budget needs.

• The portfolio of applications is balanced with global solutions and local right-sized applications specific to Legacy Asset needs.

Pivotal Experiences for the role:

• Experience managing the lifecycle of applications

• Ability to effectively work with globally diverse teams including with third-party vendors

• Demonstrated ability to manage a large number of inputs and effectively prioritize high value/high risk issues for attention

• Proven experience in problem solving and root cause analysis

• Experience in the implementation and safe operational support of mission critical solutions in large scale environments and organizations

• Experience in process and change management and adherence

• Familiarity with cloud, specifically Azure and AWS

• PowerPlatform experience

• Relevant industry experience (e.g. mining, oil & gas)

About the Role

Establish standard methodologies, procedures, and templates for Cost Engineering and all facets of project controls (change management, contingency drawdown, WBS alignment, and SAP integration); implement and manage the Global company cost management system to ensure compliance with the company’s requirements; interface with Finance and PC&P to ensure alignment in data gathering and reporting; provide specialist advice and execute tasks in the provision of project cost engineering services to Projects; directly... manage three (3) Project Controls Specialists; provide guidance to Project Management teams and external contractors and consultants; execute tasks in the provision of Project Controls services to Projects, including aggregation of information from all Project Controls disciplines to deliver integrated analysis and reporting to ensure on-time and on-budget delivery of project’s objectives; ensure conformance with Code of Conduct and relevant statutory obligations; provide cost engineering expertise and support to the Project Management Office, Project Development and Delivery sub-functions to ensure the optimum delivery of a project/program of projects; implement the appropriate cost control regime for a particular project given its scope, contracting strategy, complexity, and other project factors; review individual project costs and comparison against the project budget; apply Earned Value techniques as appropriate to forecast cost trends; identify and implement Cost Engineering improvement initiatives; manage Value of Work Done and submits project accruals; and liaise with representatives from the project teams, Risk, Contracts & Procurement, and Project Controls to develop the time phased forecast to complete on projects. 2. Business systems, including SAP, Excel, CMS, Ecosys, or PRISM;
