the first of its kind to offer coursework that centers student
well-being throughout the curriculum and offers its students
opportunities to implement well-being in HESA theoretical
frameworks and practical applications. The successful candidate
will have the opportunity to provide vision and leadership for the
HESA program. The first year of this role will be devoted to course
development and program coordination with our online program
management provider in preparation for the first courses to be
taught in fall 2024. This position includes responsibilities
related to course development, course instruction, and
administrative oversight.

This is an on-campus, Indianapolis-based position. The successful
candidate will have the following qualities:
• Experience and expertise in the practice and teaching of
HESA.
• Demonstrated commitment to interrupting and eliminating
inequitable outcomes, removing barriers, and creating inclusive
conditions for individuals and communities regardless of any
predictive identities.
• Alignment with the COE Shared Commitments and the mission of
Butler University
• Ability to support learners from a variety of backgrounds with
strong, student-centered, inclusive instructional methods in a
fully online format.
• Understanding of best/emerging practices and professional
competencies in student affairs and the ability to apply that
knowledge in the preparation and mentorship of future
practitioners

We are particularly interested in applicants from identity groups

Required qualifications: Masters degree in higher education or
student affairs administration or related discipline by contract
start date. Experience and excellence in providing online
instruction; experience with supervision of students in HESA or
related fields; evidence of sustained commitment and action towards
diversity, equity, and inclusion in educational settings;
experience working with students from a variety of cultural and
linguistic backgrounds; and demonstrated skill in communication,
collaboration, and fostering collegiality. Demonstrated record of
success with project management, new program development, and/or
department administration.

Preferred qualifications: Earned doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in
higher education or student affairs administration or related
discipline by contract start date. Professional experience in
higher education or student affairs administration; and expertise
and interest in developing new courses related to centering student
well-being in student affairs and college administration
practice.

Expectations: Teach 9-12 credit hours of courses each semester
across the fully online MS in HESA program depending on
administrative responsibilities; in partnership with our online
program management provider, create and/or adapt courses for online
delivery and coordinate administrative aspects of the program
(e.g., recruitment, retention, scheduling, admission); oversee
adjunct faculty; maintain presence on campus to partner with other
University divisions on multiple aspects of the program;
participate in service to the COE and University.

Primary responsibilities include providing dynamic, excellent
private Horn instruction to undergraduate and graduate music majors
and non-majors, holding weekly horn studio classes, coaching
chamber music, teaching additional supportive courses such as
pedagogy, and teaching Music Theory and Aural Skills courses. The
position would also include serving as the coordinator for the
brass area. Two of Butler’s key strategic goals are “to create an
intentionally diverse, inclusive, and equitable campus community,”
and to “build a culture of empowerment, engagement and
accountability.” The successful candidate will actively contribute
to building an inclusive learning environment for an increasingly
diverse student population and demonstrate commitment to performing
and teaching diverse repertoires. The candidate is expected to
actively recruit Horn students which includes providing sample
lessons for prospective students, providing coaching/sectionals for
high school ensembles (on and off-campus), and participating in
new-student auditions. Active participation is expected for all
brass juries and recital hearing and grading committees each
semester. Academic advising, student mentoring, attendance at
faculty meetings (brass area, department, college, and university),
committee participation, and service to the university and
community is expected of the successful candidate, as well as the
expectation of maintaining a high profile by performing locally,
regionally, and nationally. Continuing excellence in teaching,
creative/scholarly activity, and service is expected to qualify for
reappointment, tenure, and promotion.

Qualifications: Required qualifications include a master’s degree
in music or commensurate experience, evidence of professional-level
performance, and successful Horn and music theory/aural skills
teaching at the collegiate level. Preferred qualifications include
a record of proven success in the recruitment of exceptional
college music majors.
