Position Summary

Help fulfill the university’s mission by teaching students and providing content expertise in Supply Chain and Operations Management. Background and experience in one or more of the following are desirable: Operations Management, Supply Chain Management especially within the areas of purchasing and supplier management, and Project Management within the area of operational improvement. Additional responsibilities include advising students and other department and university assignments.

Throughout their careers, all BYU-Idaho faculty are expected to actively pursue professional development opportunities in learning and teaching and ongoing scholarly development within their discipline.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

Advanced degree required (master’s or doctorate) in Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field with professional or industry experience. Professional certifications within Supply Chain, Operations, and Project Management organizations will be favorable.

The ability to utilize quantitative and business analytic skills to problem solve and make strategic decisions. In addition to being an Excel master, other preferred skills would include abilities in SQL, VBA, Tableau, and other data analysis tools. Applicants must have a demonstrated commitment to and evidence of excellence in teaching.

Work Schedule

Full-time faculty members teach 36 load hours annually, across Fall, Winter, and Spring Semesters; this total includes up to 6 load hours of professional development. In the days immediately preceding and following semesters, faculty members attend meetings, grade papers, perform professional development activities, etc. Semesters last approximately 14 weeks, and annual faculty contracts cover 47.5 weeks.

The course will also deliver practical life lessons and fundamental business tools required to become a successful entrepreneur. Students will develop some important mindsets in the area of thinking, learning and doing what the financially successful entrepreneurs do.

Adjunct Faculty – BUS 270: Human Resource Management: This course is an overview of human resource management topics such as diversity, EEOC laws, recruiting, labor relations, performance management, compensation and benefits, motivation, workplace organizational design, difficult interactions, employee relations, and safety. The course also considers organizational behavior topics in the context of human resource management such as teamwork, power dynamics, innovation, and groupthink. The course leverages case studies and professional/scholarly articles to gain a better understanding of real-life workplace challenges.

Adjunct Faculty—BUS 301: Advanced Writing in Professional Contexts: This course introduces the fundamentals of rhetorical principles and writing practices using a number of typical business situations. During the course, students will produce effective business letters, memos, reports, and employment packages — some of which will be created independently and some of which will involve collaborative efforts. This will prepare students for the demands of business careers that require significant time reading, drafting, and revising written communication.

Position Summary

Teach an introductory course in Land Surveying as a part-time faculty member. Provide instruction to undergraduate students on the following topics:
• Theory and use of measurements pertaining to land surveying.
• Surveying for highways, streets, site design, pipelines, culverts, bridges, building and foundation layout and quantities.
• Use of surveying instruments including GPS equipment.
• Properly recording field notes using a field book.
• Interpreting and developing drawings used in land surveying.

Adjunct faculty members are responsible to model correct procedures and best teaching practices in the classroom; to oversee and teach lab classroom setup and clean up procedures; to grade and provide feedback on multiple lesson plans per semester and return to students in a timely manner; to hold pre-plan and/or consultation meetings with students; to observe lesson implementation and return feedback to student in a timely manner.

The position is an HR Partner responsible for hiring all student employees in the department, and partner with accounting and HR to process payroll for the department employees.

Knowledge, Skills & ExperienceExperience:

3 years combined education/customer service/clerical experience that reflects a commitment to a customer-focused environment

Skills:

Requires: (a) strong customer service skills; (b) excellent computer knowledge and skills; and (c) proficiency with Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
