The College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences (CAFES) at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo (Cal Poly) is seeking a dynamic leader to serve as the Associate Dean, Operations and Infrastructure, as part of the Dean's leadership team to help lead and manage the college.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

This 12-month, full-time position is a key member of the administrative leadership team of the College and reports directly to the Dean.

Duties include:
• Strategic planning and oversight of the college's infrastructure and 18 production operations, which generate more than $5M in annual revenue, and off-campus ranches, such as the Swanton Pacific Ranch and the Bartleson Ranch. These operations collectively provide the teaching and research laboratories to support Learn by Doing for CAFES students
• Collaboration with department heads and center directors to ensure short- and long-term viability and relevance of CAFES production operations to support teaching and research, commercial activities and to meet the needs of supporting industries who hire CAFES graduates
• Partner with department heads to manage production operations including strategic direction, business capital, short- and long-range planning, day-to-day operations, and personnel, to meet CAFES teaching and research needs. Support the department heads to lead and manage their teams of high-functioning direct reports from various areas and specialties that are relevant to the College
• Collaborate with department heads and production managers to manage Ag Student Housing operations and enhance facilities as needed to ensure housing is safe and current with building code requirements
• Ensure compliance with all local, state and federal regulations (i.e., Cal OSHA, Alcohol Beverage Control, USDA, FDA) pertaining to all production operations
• Work with department heads, center directors and unit managers to develop and drive unified marketing and supply chain efforts both on and off campus for produced food and beverage items
• Oversee and manage the CAFES Agricultural Operations department
• Oversee CAFES space and safety management
• Provide leadership for CAFES IT oversight
• Perform analysis and interpretation of institutional data and support dean with CAFES budget
• Manage and address faculty and personnel issues in collaboration with other Associate Deans in the college
• Other administrative duties as assigned as it relates to Associate Dean duties within the college
Salary commensurate with education and experience of the individual selected. Anticipated hiring range: $175,000 - $195,000 per year.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
• Must be willing to travel and attend training programs off-site for occasional professional development.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Food Science and Nutrition Department has 12 full-time faculty, numerous part-time faculty, support staff, and approximately 600 majors. FSN offers two majors - Nutrition and Food Science. The department hosts a dynamic and innovative Nutrition program that encourages national as well as international perspectives on teaching and research. The Nutrition curriculum includes two concentrations: Applied Nutrition and Nutrition Science.

The Applied Nutrition concentration is accredited by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The Nutrition Science concentration prepares students for graduate programs and a variety of health professions including nursing, Physician Assistant programs, medical school, dentistry careers and others. The Food Science program offers an Institute of Food Technologists-approved curriculum and a Research Chef Association-approved curriculum.   The department offers two graduate programs including a Master of Science in Nutrition and Master of Science in Food Science as well as a Dietetic Internship program.

The FSN department will have 6 new laboratories in the Boswell Ag Tech Center, a centerpiece of Cal Poly’s new $125 million William and Linda Frost Center for Research and Innovation building, which will enable research and discovery to train tomorrow’s leaders in agriculture and food innovation (https://cafesbuilds.calpoly.edu/boswell-ag-tech-center/). Department Information
The Art and Design Department offers a four-year curriculum leading to a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree. The curriculum prepares students for professional participation in three concentrations: graphic design, photography & video, or studio art. The department offers a balanced experience in the arts that includes: 2-D and 3-D studio art, art history, graphic design, interaction design photography and video, critical theory, and general education in liberal arts.

The Department of Art and Design promotes individual vision and creative excellence. The curriculum provides a strong foundation in the creation, history, and theory of the visual arts that prepares students for professional careers and graduate studies. Art and Design emphasizes experimentation, problem solving, and interdisciplinary collaboration informed by global awareness.

Currently the Art and Design Department, in the College of Liberal Arts, has three Studio Art professors, three Photo and Video professors, three Graphic Design professors, two Art History professors, and 14 lecturers across the three concentrations.
