CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS: Under supervision, performs a variety of responsible sub-professional library duties in a Chicago Public School library; and performs related duties as required.

• Participates in the orientation of new employees, provides information relating to conditions of employment, personnel policies and library benefits.
• Coordinates an annual maintenance review of job descriptions, ensuring that each employee has a current job description.
• Responsible for overseeing the grievance procedures when necessary.
• Participates in termination proceedings involving individuals.
• Participates in the administration of employee safety, health, and security programs.
• Administers the various employee benefit programs such as group insurance, life, medical and dental, accident and disability insurance. Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the Head of Interlibrary Loan Borrowing, transmits outgoing interlibrary loan requests via ILLiad, OCLC WorldShare ILL, Relais, and DOCLINE. Performs duties of Library Assistant and Library Clerk positions. Performs work in accordance with Library standards and procedures.Interacts directly with international libraries and requests hard-to-find materials via ALA email and international webforms.
Responsibilities:
• Processes client requests using ILLiad, ReShare, and Folio systems by verifying citations in many languages using a wide variety of sources, searching online catalogs and databases for materials held in our collections and sending requests to lending libraries via ILLiad.
• Interacts directly with international libraries and requests hard-to-find materials via ALA email and international webforms.
• Processes incoming and returning books, micro-formats, media, and other loans and posts scanned documents to clients’ ILLiad accounts.
• Shares departmental customer service duties with Processing Assistant counterpart, including assisting clients with the placing of Interlibrary Loan requests and answering policy and procedure questions.
• Oversees student staff and work: introduce new employees to Library policies, procedures, programs, and equipment and Directs and trains student employees in a range of library tasks, including the proper processing of borrowed materials for client use.
• Performs database maintenance by correcting errors in interlibrary loan records, and manually updating interlibrary loan records as necessary.
• Assist in documenting procedures and recommending changes in procedures and processes as necessary, participates in training sessions related to job duties as needed and assisting with ILL Shipping duties as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Serves as advisor to the Librarians and senior administrators regarding strategies for purchasing, cataloging, and processing of Library books and materials; and provides leadership and counsel regarding electronic resources and emerging issues regarding Internet use and intellectual freedom. The incumbent will have primary responsibility for determining what methods, sources and processes would be most effective to use in adding books and materials to the Library’s collection. This position shares in the responsibility for articulating the basis for selection of books and materials to the public.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
• Accountable for the training, scheduling, supervision, and evaluation of the TSD staff. Oversees and directs activities relating to the data entry of library holdings in the library’s computer system for the general collection and archival collection.
• Catalogues all types of library materials according to relevant bibliographic control standards, ensuring timely, responsive, and well-coordinated acquisition, cataloging, inventory control, processing and preservation services for all materials currently in or being added to the Library’s collection.
• Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service
• Assists in local database management, including development and maintenance of local authority files and holdings, deletions in both library catalog and OCLC.

Serves as advisor to the Librarians and senior administrators regarding strategies for purchasing, cataloging, and processing of Library books and materials; and provides leadership and counsel regarding electronic resources and emerging issues regarding Internet use and intellectual freedom. The incumbent will have primary responsibility for determining what methods, sources and processes would be most effective to use in adding books and materials to the Library’s collection. This position shares in the responsibility for articulating the basis for selection of books and materials to the public.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
• Accountable for the training, scheduling, supervision, and evaluation of the TSD staff. Oversees and directs activities relating to the data entry of library holdings in the library’s computer system for the general collection and archival collection.
• Catalogues all types of library materials according to relevant bibliographic control standards, ensuring timely, responsive, and well-coordinated acquisition, cataloging, inventory control, processing and preservation services for all materials currently in or being added to the Library’s collection.
• Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service
• Assists in local database management, including development and maintenance of local authority files and holdings, deletions in both library catalog and OCLC.
• Oversee the selection of periodicals, continuations and electronic resources for the Library and coordinate related training and communications regarding these resources
• Support intellectual freedom; and provide leadership to the Library through collaborative problem-solving.
• Verifies book and material requests submitted by Librarians for appropriate title, ISBN, price, publisher, and edition to ensure the material can be ordered as specified.
• Places orders for books and other materials to vendor using an on-line computer systems;
• Responsible for the continuous preservation measures of library collection.
• Prepares statistical and other reports as requested by the Director and/or required by the Indiana State Library.
• Represents TSD at library meetings and at appropriate community events.
• Portrays a positive image and supports the philosophy and goals of the Library Director.
• Participates in administrative staff meetings and attends other meetings as requested.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
• Travel may be required.
Supervision exercised
Direct Supervision of the TSD staff assigning duties, outlining methods, directing work in progress, checking completed work, evaluating job performance, taking disciplinary action as needed, issuing commendations as warranted, and being available for consultation on problems that arise.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
General knowledge of integrated library systems and networks, online bibliographic retrieval services and cataloging services.
Knowledge of collection development standards and operations for diverse subjects and formats, and current trends in public library collection management
General knowledge of library principles and practices.
General knowledge of the Resource Description and Access (RDA) and AACR2 rules.
General knowledge of the Dewey Decimal Classification System and Library of Congress subject headings.
General knowledge of MARC format.
Experience supervising, including the ability to train and inspire staff, and promote enthusiastic teamwork.
Working knowledge of and ability to use relevant electronic information resources, including recent technological innovations, emerging information databases and delivery technologies, and library applications.
Excellent interpersonal and creative problem-solving skills.
Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
Physical and Mental Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, lift and/or move a maximum of 15 pounds. Occasionally is required to bend at the knees, bend at the waist, reach (extending hands and arms in any direction), handling (grasping, holding or turning objects), working with fingertips, and hearing sounds/communication.
Education, Experience, and Training
MLS from an ALA-accredited library school. Must maintain at least 75 LEUs every five years.
Computer use for creating cataloging records and reports; scheduling and supervising staff; organizing and prioritizing work; record historical material.
License and Certification Requirements
Library Certification 3 or higher; to qualify for re-certification, must complete a minimum of 75 Library Educational Units every 5 years, as specified by the Indiana State Library
Possession of a valid Indiana driver’s license or evidence of equivalent mobility.
