GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Responsible for safe, efficient and legal operation of vehicle; provides courteous assistance to passengers. Must perform daily routine inspections and prepare reports on vehicles as required.

• Drives 14- or 16-passenger vehicle over a designated route, including residential streets as well as major thoroughfares; makes frequent stops to board and discharge passengers.
• Ability to operate 14- or 16-passenger vehicle in a safe and lawful manner.
• Ability to read a street map in finding unfamiliar locations quickly.
• Ability to work in a time-structured environment under minimal direct supervision and to follow routine written and verbal instructions.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and problem-solving skills in responding to situations and notifying the proper authorities in a timely manner.
• Effective verbal communication and interpersonal skills, and a demonstrated ability to work effectively with the public, including senior citizens and the disabled.
• Assists disabled and senior citizen passengers in boarding and exiting vehicle, including securing wheelchairs to restraining devices as needed.
• Prepares records and reports of accidents, incidents and vehicle condition.
• Will be required to operate radio or other communication device to report status of vehicle or interruptions in service.
