The Team You’ll Work With:
The NYC Mayor’s Office of Equity (MOE) was established in 2022 and serves as New York City government’s centralized equity office. Focusing on developing critical, equity-driven strategies across our diverse communities, MOE includes the Commission on Gender Equity (CGE), the Young Men’s Initiative (YMI), and the NYC Unity Project (UP) as well as multi-agency bodies like the Pay Equity Cabinet (PEC) and the Taskforce on Racial Inclusion & Equity (TRIE).

New York City voters passed three ballot measures in November 2022 to embed racial justice in the heart of City government. The Mayor’s Office of Equity is hiring several new staff to develop and lead the successful implementation of these ballot measures and help realize a vision of racial equity in New York City.

MOE’s staff develop innovative programs, policies, initiatives, and campaigns designed to measurably reduce disparities and promote Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Accessibility (DEI&A). As a critical part of the mayor’s efforts to build a stronger and healthier city, MOE works across City agencies and external partners to effect meaningful change. Every MOE staffer plays an integral role in our unrelenting commitment to equity.

The Problems You’ll Solve:
As a Policy Analyst reporting to the Policy Director, you will be responsible for tracking the latest developments in policy, legislation, and advocacy around racial equity. The portfolio of work will cut across different issues and identities. The Policy Analyst will work with MOE staff, city agencies, and external stakeholders to lead, support, and advise on racial equity policies and programs. The office is undertaking significant transformation and growth, so you will play a key role in establishing new policies, procedures, and processes related to budget planning and management.

Responsibilities:

Research & Analysis
- Conducts research, gathers data, and collaborates with stakeholders to formulate policies that support MOE’s racial equity work.
- Prepares well-written memos that provide detailed analyses and recommendations on policy matters, including data analysis as appropriate.
- Tracks and analyzes the latest developments in racial equity policy, legislation, and advocacy at local, state, and national levels.
- Supports and manages development of annual legislative agenda.
- Develops areas of subject matter expertise, while maintaining a willingness to learn and lean into new subject areas as needed.

Project Management
- In coordination with appropriate city agencies and team members, assist in overseeing and monitoring projects and policy initiatives to ensure that goals and timelines are met.
- Ensures that concurrent research projects and other work are appropriately prioritized.
- Maintains a diverse portfolio of work that cuts across different subject areas.
- Supports emerging priorities as they arise.

Internal/External Stakeholder Relationships
- Builds strong relationships with key stakeholders, including city agency partners, local, statewide, and national racial justice advocates.
- Acts as a liaison with stakeholders and communicates on behalf of MOE when leading projects.

Interagency Coordination
- Coordinates and works collaboratively with city agencies on initiatives.
- Identifies and initiates outreach to relevant city agencies on key policy areas.
- Supports the interagency work of the Taskforce on Racial Inclusion and Equity (TRIE) and relevant equity agendas.

General Support
- Supports policy efforts across the MOE team, such as attending outreach events or reviewing external communications related to your areas of expertise.
- Other duties as needed.

About You:
- Bachelor’s degree in public policy, public administration, ethnic studies, or related field and at least two to three (2-3) years of work experience in the areas described above OR a high school diploma and at least five (5) years of professional experience in the areas described above.
- Familiarity with City government, inequities across New York City neighborhoods, New York City demographics, and issues around the criminal legal system and collateral consequences, language justice, accessibility, and/or pay equity is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of issues affecting BIPOC New Yorkers.
- Familiar with concepts of racial equity, intersectionality, structural racism, and marginalization.

Salary:

Responsibilities

Job responsibilities will include, but not limited to:
• Manage Dr. Califano’ s complex schedule. Schedule and confirm meetings, coordinate committee meetings and conferences. Make travel arrangements, develop itineraries and agendas. Coordinate meeting and event planning and ensure availability of protected time to perform scientific duties, such as writing manuscripts and grant proposals.
• Coordinate with the administrative assistants of other investigators to schedule complex meetings with multiple attendees and schedule recurrent meetings with lab members and administrative personnel.
• Schedule travel, and travel accommodations to attend conferences, invitations by other research institutions, and oversea events.
• Prepare and process expense reports, following-up with the appropriate departments of the University as needed.
• Keep bio-sketch, CV, biographies, etc., up-to-date including publication listings.
• Keep records of scientific presentations made by Dr. Califano.
• Proof and edit documents, letters of recommendation as required.
• Maintain and provide conflict of interest information for academic publications and presentations.
• Manage the scheduling of regularly occurring internal lab meetings.
• Update all aspects of the laboratory's website on a regular basis.
• Provide direct support in organizing Dr. Califano’ s office and conference room, includes organizing scientific journals and periodicals, coordinating the maintenance of equipment, following up with building maintenance as needed for office cleanliness and repairs.
• Help track research project goals and grant deliverables for the lab.
• Coordinate recruitment initiatives, organizing the logistics for recruits and onboarding new lab members.
• Work with DSB HR to complete the RFP/requisition forms and other HR-related tasks for the Califano lab.
• Help write and submit IRB protocols and material transfer agreements.
• Manage dbGaP submission process and work with the lab members to submit all materials needed for approvals.
• PMCID maintenance: the Administrative Manager will be responsible for getting the PMCIDs for publications (to comply with NIH’s Public Access policy) and linking the publications via MyNCBI (for more than 7 grants).
• Oversee organizational and administrative aspects related to U54 grant activities, including coordination of meetings, some oversight of purchasing, help in coordination of Center retreats, and logistic support for the annual site visits of the NCI Program Officer(s) and of the External Advisory Committee.
• Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned/requested.

Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in education, training and experience, plus four years of related experience.
• Knowledge of MS Windows Office Professional, including email and calendar functions.

The CUNY Start Academic Student Support Specialist conducts comprehensive individual and group student orientations, academic advising, performance feedback sessions and conferences, skills development seminars, and workshops. They also support outreach and recruitment, new student orientation, information sessions and interviews, and other activities to enable successful program enrollment, completion, college transition and matriculation. The CUNY Start Academic Student Support Specialist is an active member of the program team, working closely with professional developers and instructors in the program. Qualifications
