Leadership Opportunity:

The Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland is seeking a Vice President or Assistant Vice President to lead the Center for Inflation Research. The successful candidate will supervise a group of Ph.D. economists, engage in research on inflation and related issues, advise the Bank's President on economic conditions and policy issues, and seek to improve public understanding of inflation and the factors that influence its behavior. This position reports directly to the Director of Research.

Specific expectations of the role include:
• Strategically leading the Center for Inflation Research and managing its team of Ph.D. economists.
• Conducting high-quality academic research on inflation and related topics.
• Driving engagement with and messaging to the public, by dynamically managing and expanding the Center for Inflation Research's external website presence, giving public outlook speeches, commenting on inflation developments in interviews with media outlets, and providing other outreach to the public.
• Playing a senior role in monetary policy preparations within the Research department through participation in and oversight of policy briefings for the President in preparation for meetings of the Federal Open Market Committee.
• Providing leadership in organizing and managing the Center for Inflation Research's annual Inflation: Drivers and Dynamics conference series, other conference series, seminars, visiting scholars, and related innovative programs to build team capability, highlight department expertise, and serve as a resource to the economics profession.
• Overseeing staff development to produce academic research, inform policy decisions, and provide public outreach.
• Representing the Bank and assuming leadership positions at the Federal Reserve System level, including developing, recommending, and implementing significant System initiatives, and participating in industry and professional organizations.
• Working with the Bank's data manager and Research IT team to help assess analytical data needs and to ensure appropriate cross-functional access to data that supports collaboration.
• Working collaboratively with the other officers of the Research Department in a leadership capacity to actively promote employee engagement, enhance research productivity, and support the policy process.
CRITICAL BACKGROUND AND CAPABILITIES

The successful candidate will have substantial experience conducting high-quality academic research on inflation and related topics as evidenced by an extensive publication record, expertise in monetary policy advising, excellent communication skills, strategic vision, and the ability to lead a group of Ph.D. economists. A Ph.D. in economics or finance is required. Prior management experience is highly desirable.

Qualifications:
• Demonstrated success commensurate with experience in publishing research related to inflation and related topics in top academic journals.
• Experience using a range of analytical and empirical tools and models related to inflation and macroeconomic analysis.
• Ability to provide in-depth advice on matters related to monetary policy.
• Ability to think strategically and with a growth mindset, potentially outside of traditional reporting boundaries, to elevate the reputation of the Center for Inflation Research.
• Capacity to successfully oversee, manage, and direct a team of Ph.D. economists.
• Demonstrated ability to develop productive and collaborative relationships at all levels of the organization. Strong interpersonal skills with experience in communicating concepts, messages, and key information to benefit the function, the Bank, and key stakeholders.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex economics concepts to members of the general public through a variety of formats, including in the Bank's Economic Commentary series, through public outlook speeches, and in media interviews.
This position requires access to confidential supervisory information and/or FOMC information, which is limited to "Protected Individuals" as defined in the U.S. federal immigration law. About the Opportunity

What You Will Do:
• Design, develop, optimize, and maintain automated and repeatable data architecture and pipelines that adhere to ETL principles and business goals
• Develop data solutions in a distributed system/Cloud environment using BIG data technologies (i.e. EC2, RDS, Spark, EMR, Lambda and Redshift).
• Solve complex data problems to deliver insights that help our business to achieve our goals

• Advise, consult, mentor, and coach other data and analytic professionals on data standards and practices

• Lead the evaluation, implementation, and deployment of emerging tools and processes for analytic data engineering in order to improve our productivity as a team
• Develop and deliver communication and education plans on analytic data engineering capabilities, standards, and processes
• Partner with business analysts and solutions architects to develop technical architectures for strategic enterprise projects and initiatives
• Learn about machine learning, data science, computer vision, artificial intelligence, statistics, and/or applied mathematics
• Familiarity with develop reporting solutions in a distributed environment using Tableau, Quick Sight, and other BI products
• Troubleshoot data related issues, manipulate data, and provide reports/dashboards using Python, R, Scala
• Participate in planning and effort estimation; estimate the workload and review dependencies.
• Work with Product Owner in developing product roadmaps in alignment with other data products in the organization and business roadmaps

Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree required; Computer Science, MIS, or Engineering preferred
• 5 years of experience working in data engineering or architecture role, 7 preferred
• Expertise in SQL and data analysis and experience with Python (knowledge of other programming languages such as Java, Scala, etc. helpful)
• Experience developing and maintaining data warehouses in big data solutions
• Experience with developing solutions on cloud computing services and infrastructure in the data and analytics space (preferred)
• Database development experience using Hadoop or BigQuery and experience with a variety of relational, NoSQL, and Cloud database technologies
• Experience developing dashboards worked with BI tools such as Tableau, Power BI, Looker, Shiny focusing on UX
• Conceptual knowledge of data and analytics, such as dimensional modelling, ETL, reporting tools, data governance, data warehousing, structured and unstructured data
• Experience with version control and best practices
• Working experience in Agile development methodologies.
• Exposure to machine learning, data science, computer vision, artificial intelligence, statistics, and/or implied mathematics
• Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, creativity, attention to detail, and oral and written communications skills.

Fed Futures combines curriculum and activities created by the Federal Reserve System to provide a continuum of skill development, training, and professional mentoring highlighting career paths in finance and economics.
